Artists that use a 5-string

I've been playing guitar for the past few years, but I'm thinking about getting a bass to play around with and mostly use for recording. I'm trying to decide if I should go for the standard 4-string or get the 5-string for the versatility if I'll ever need it, since this will most likely be my only bass.

So my question to you guys is... what artists use 5-strings regularly? I mostly play rock and metal, so I'm curious of when exactly I'd need a 5-string.

Lots of people do... too many to list.

For my current cover rock act we just detune certain instruments and go from there, but a lot of people just use a standard-tuned 5'er or half or full step down and that cover about anything you could need.

Otherwise though, my MTD 535 is all I use.

I have buddies who play their own bass tracks and a 5'er has the low B there if you ever need it. A 4 does not.

i know various artists who play 5's...but who i can think off the top of my head is Fieldy from korn...i used to listen to them back in the day, i dont anymore but i still think fieldy is different and great bass player. Some may disagree here but oh well.

Not a touring pro, but when Ive had fivers Ive tuned em EADGB like first 5 on guitar, octave lower. Ok for touring pros that use five string, Main one that comes to my mind is Bass Player for Dimmu Borgir, uses BC rich warlock 5 string bass. Was regular NT/NJ series, now has own version with his graphics. Lol.

Taht low B is so handy. I use it whenever I can when i pick up my 5 stringer. I have a 4 stringer too. It has such a different feel to it like my fingers just want to fly across the bass after playing the 5er. The tone is is so cool, too. Bottler end and you can play the meatiest Blues to the most rumble of the Reggae. It's great for Rock, too. Even Classic Rock.
