Members Sherman90
Ran a search but couldn't find much in the way of discussion on these beauties... I've been playing bass for years and, seeing as how I'm currently the bassist in my current project, I figure it's about time I bought a lifelong companion. So what's the community consensus on the *recent* American '57 Reissue Ps? Anyone play one and love/hate it? I have the opportunity to purchase an '05 from a friend for about $875 and I'm tempted to bite the bullet. It's in mint shape barring some nitro cracking on the neck finish - perhaps from an over-tight neck. http://www.gbase.com/files/store_images/gear/2132891/p1_ugqjferxy_so.jpg (This isn't my friend's, but man I love maple necks!) ...thoughts? Cheers!
Moderators Kindness Posted September 28, 2009 Moderators Share Posted September 28, 2009 That's an '07 I believe. Positives: it's a P. Negatives: I don't like gloss finishes on necks and the raised pole pieces under the A string were done away with back in the day for a reason. Both of those negatives are a part of the recreation aspect. At that price, you could find a Lakland Skyline Glaub, which is their P copy. I think the Lakland is a better bass, but I wouldn't complain about owning or playing either.

Members Thumper
Mine wasn't 'recent'---it was made in 1983, the first year of the reissue. I wish I still had it. It sounded great and had an awesome, wide-flat radius board. The flat radius isn't everyone's cuppa tea, but it's very comfy once you get used to it. Members jasper383
Anything under $1K for one in excellent or better condition is pretty good.
