Members Crescent Seven
Pre-Obama Chevy Cavalier coupe, 2001 to be exact, with 93k miles for $1000. It runs great, it just needs a tail light bulb, and the paint is oxidized. Couple of tires in a couple of months. I was looking for a hatchback but this came along from a friend's mom who put exactly 50 miles on the car in the last year, since she prefers her SUV. Now I can stop spending $60 a week for gas to get to school and work in the Pathfinder, and I can start tweaking the P-finder as a rec vehicle rather than a daily driver. Pics forthcoming; the car is black and it's dark outside. It's not very pretty, but it does the trick for gas mileage. C7

Members slapthefunkyfour
Nice. You can never go wrong with a chevy. Cheap, easy to find parts, easy to fix, relatively reliable. That's one hell of a deal too. My wife and I are thinking about buying a car from my father-in-law. 1996 Volvo 850 turbo. Wow. That thing is so much fun to drive. Members Crescent Seven
Seems to be a pretty lucky find, I just got a call last week from my girlfriend to tell me her friend's mom was selling the car for $1000; I figured at that price it was clapped out. Not at all, it's not pretty but it runs great. It's not dented up or rusting, the paint is just oxidized, which is very common in CO for dark colored cars. For $1000, if I get 30k miles out of it and it falls into a sinkhole, I will still have gotten my money's worth.C7
Members Jesse Neil
I bought my Taurus 4 or 5 years ago for $450 and she's still kicking. I have a broken end link and a dead strut in the back, but I'm too broke to fix it. I kinda don't care, either. I drive 6 miles a day.
Members Emprov
Of course the important question is: How well does it hold your gear?
Members Crescent Seven
Of course the important question is: How well does it hold your gear? Not very. I could probably put my 2x10 and my rack in the trunk and my basses in the back seat, but it won't hold my 4x10. No biggie. I have the Pathfinder for that. I was keeping my eyes on CL for a cheap hatchback, but I couldn't pass this car up. Good deals don't come up very often, especially from a trusted seller. Members Sugarskull
Good stuff. I just sunk 3600 into our crappy Van and it makes me mad. The whole front end collapsed 3 months after we finished paying for it.
Members brake
Cool! Is it a 2.2? We just sold our 02 4 door Sunfire but only cause I bought the Vic...well, that and the head gasket was gone in the Sunfire Check all of the hoses that run close to the edge of the metal on either side of the engine bay to make sure the metal isn't cutting 'em. One common problem I have seen with these cars, sometimes the lines are too close and the metal is sharp enough to cut through them eventually. Members zachoff
Sick dude! Even if it did run like crap... Nothing runs like crap, longer, than a Chevy!

Peppy little car with the standard trans. Thanks for the heads-up. I'm going to go through it tomorrow and check all the little things, but the engine compartment is super clean.
