There were over 10 cop cars there, I'm willing to guess it was a fatality. By the exodus of guys in white clothing pouring out of the club, I'm also willing to bet it was gang related. The club is a 20 something club, so I'm hoping the victim doesn't have any kids or a wife to grieve for him right now. It's sad enough as it is.

We were detained for over an hour. "I didn't see anything, I was playing at the club two doors down.... these are our instruments, yes you can have our ID, we have nothing to hide..." Holy jeebus exhausting and it's like -8 fahrenheit out tonight, I'm in a short skirt just my coat and some mittens, I'm a little drunk and yes like I said I feel really bad for whomever was shot and their families.. but man am I cold and tired and just happy I'm home now. Whew.

EDIT: release from Global News. given to me on Monday.

At about 1:35 A.M early Sunday morning October 11th, 2009, Calgary Police were called to a disturbance at the Opus nightclub, located in the 600 block of 8 Ave. S.W. Upon arrival Police found one male with a stab wound to the abdomen and he was immediately transported to Hospital by EMS. Witnesses stated shots had been fired outside the club, and officers found a couple of shell casings. Shortly after, officers located an automatic handgun under a car in an adjacent parkade.

Two other stabbing victims showed up at the Hospital on their own, and stated they were also at the nightclub where they were stabbed. None of the injuries are considered life -threatening.

District 1 Detectives are investigating the shooting and stabbing. The shooting and stabbing may be the result of two groups fighting. No one was shot in this incident. There were about 100 patrons in the bar at the time of the incident.

It happened at the hiphop club 2 doors down. We were detained for no reason. I mean they had to question everyone, obviously, but because we were carrying intriguing looking bags, they spent extra time with us. Most people were excused after 2 minutes tops. Us.. over an hour.

100 hundred people in that other club. No one saw anything. 60 people in our club... live music is all they saw. No gun fire, no death. Stupid. I hate canned music. I blame the DJ. lol- dark humour lol.

It's unfortunate what happened nearby, that's a major drag to have to deal with. I've had my share of those moments working in clubs over the years.

Glad you all are ok, no one gets shot at a Rockabilly show. Maybe stuck with a switchblade, but that's it.

We had a guy out at our show a couple weeks ago, he stayed the whole night, partied, danced and is in a lot of pictures from that show. After he left he went to the bar his wife worked at and killed her. He seemed happy earlier in the night.

Damn, that sucks hardcore.

?!

Not cool.

I would have been at this show if I didn't decide yesterday to come back to my hometown a day early. This kind of crap is making it hard to want to live in Calgary anymore..(for me, anyways).

Glad you guys are okay. How was the show otherwise?

They didn't have the heat going at first and the second the last song was played they shut it off again, so the crowd were really uncomfortable sitting there in their coats. The pa had blown horns or something and every time we played an 'A' it rattled and distorted. Completely goofy. That PA has been broken for 2 weeks now and was supposed to be fixed. It's such a good looking club, but so gosh darn weak on the management side of things. They were putting up our posters as we walked in. "Really? I paid you 75 bucks in promotion for this?!" very irritating. Needless to say we wont be playing there again.

The violence outside was the topper. I mean really, if I'm going to have to worry about people being shot, I might as well be playing LA or something instead. Calgary. Pft.

gun carriers can become users in the heat of the moment...glad to hear not all Americans 'need' to bear arms:thu:

Wow! So obviously you are not trained then!

I personally can control myself, regardless of whether or not I have a weapon. :thu:
