Are body dimensions wider on 5 strings, compared to 4?

Quick question: Is the BODY dimensions of a five string bass usually wider/bigger on a five string bass compared to a similar model in four string? Let's take a Jazz for example. Does Fender merely cut out the neck pocket a bit more to accommodate a five string neck, or is it a different body pattern entirely?

I thought that I knew the answer to this and told somebody the other day that it was true. But, as I thought about it, I realized that this was simply something that I had ASSUMED was true, but didn't really know for a fact. Does anybody know for sure?

Depends on the manufacturer, but in the majority of cases, they're the same. I don't know about Fender, but I do know that Warrior, Gibson/Epiphone, and Peavey are the same. I would suspect that Fenders are the same also, but the only real argument I have for that is that they fit the same cases to 4's and 5's.
