Members collinwho
Jeter strikes out bunting with 2 strikes, guys one 1st and 2nd, and no outs, in the bottom of the 7th... true Yankee. I have no reason to be a Phillies fan, other than because they are playing the Yankees.

Members coyote-1
It didn't cost them the game. And he's batting .400, unlike any of his teammates - and has been consistently clutch all season, unlike his teammates who suddenly gave up hitting in Game 1. If anyone on that team has earned a right to take that kind of chance in a non-desperate situation, it's Jeter. It was still among the dumbest possible baseball plays to make considering the situation. No one, absolutely no one in baseball, has "earned the right" to make that kind of ridiculous mistake in that situation.

A-Rod is the highest paid player in the league, he's merely protecting the interest of the Yankees by not risking injury.

Members collinwho
Derek Jeter career postseason stats:Games: 134Avg: .311OBP: .383 Slugging: .481OPS: .864HR: 202B: 26RBI: 54BB: 60SB: 16 Alex Rodriguez career postseason stats:Games: 50Avg: .294OBP: .393 Slugging: .545OPS: .938HR: 122B: 11RBI: 29BB: 26SB: 5 If you adjust for games played, Jeter has a better batting average... and that is it. A-Rod is pretty much a better post-season player across the board.

No one, absolutely no one in baseball, has "earned the right" to make that kind of ridiculous mistake in that situation. Dumbest possible plays considering the situation? Ridiculous mistake in that situation? The situation was a Yankee lead with Rivera ready to close it out. No outs with runners on first and second. A successful bunt sac would have made another run probable. One more run would have all but guaranteed a Yankee win. I'm not saying it was the "right" decision. It wasn't, but it wasn't THAT dumb and ridiculous (even if Jeter said it was). He took a risk but failed to execute.

The latter is true, the former is not. It is about appearances, not realities. Break it down any way you want, late/close, risp, whatever, and the numbers don't bear out the knocks. Nor do they bear out St. Jeter of the Pyrite Glove's supposed clutchosity.

If A-Rod reverts to his old post-season ways during this WS, he's not better that Jeter, imo. I'd rather have Jeter if I had to choose.
