Members slapthefunkyfour
I can't get the software to recognize the capture device. I'm using a Sony Handycam model #DCR-HC42 in the Handycam station connected through firewire. I have Adobe Premiere Pro CS3. Maybe I should get Final Cut instead. How am I ever supposed to be able to submit embarrassing videos of myself on youtube if I can't get this dumb software to work?
Members vladoicho
No real experience with Premiere, so I can't give you any helpful advice, but if for the purposes that you list, I'd go with Sony Vegas. I've read that many enthusiasts don't consider Vegas to be "pro" level, but I think it can go far enough. Very intuitive and easy to use and learn, and if you put in enough effort you can make some really cool stuff
Members vismund624
Vegas is very good. It can import RED files w/o much downrezing unlike Avid which has to go through different Codecs to get the file res to 1080p so people have been using that a lot more in the past year and a half. As for Premiere, it could be a couple things. Check the firewire cable and also the port on the camera. Also try hitting play, then capture. Members slapthefunkyfour
I just tried it with Sony Vegas 8. I still cannot get the computer to recognize this camera. Lame.
Members slapthefunkyfour
That's it. I give up. No videos from me. I've wasted the entire day screwing around with the computer trying to make it work. I could have been napping on the couch instead.

Members slapthefunkyfour
So after more searching, I figured out that you have to connect the camera to the computer in a very specific order. 1. Unplug the firewire cable.2. turn off the computer and the camera.3. Connect the firewire cable to the camera and the computer.4. Turn on the computer.5. Log in, wait for everything to load up.6. Turn on the camera.7. Start the capture program. (Sony Vegas, Adobe Premiere, Windows Movie Maker) Now it's connected. Now I have to wait 1.5 hours for the video to play all the way through. Maybe tonight sometime I'll get a video posted up.
