Lately, I've been enjoying
Bass Gear Mag
(best gear reviews EVAR!!!)

Isn't that the one with which Tombowlus at TB is involved?

And, as far as BP, both content and ads seem to have been paired down -- soon to join the ranks of the written publications that have been killed by the internet. I hate people on the internet.:p

Yup, that's the one. After Issue #4 is released, I've heard the subsequent issues will be released in a much more timely manner. :thu:

Yeah, I've subscribed to BP for years, but my latest subscription just ran out (with the Scott LaFaro issue). The issues are definitly thinner now, and the reviews and lessons aren't what they used to be IMO. Maybe it will pick up again when the economy bounces back, but that remains to be seen... I recently discovered Bass Musician Magazine online and think it's purdy decent.

I let my subscription lapse, so I had to go buy a copy. It has been steadily trending downward for the last year or so, since the parent co had a big shake up and got rid of the last editor, or maybe the last editor ran it unsustainably, but either way, it's kinda sad.

A buddy of mine used to be technical editor for Keyboard, which has the same parent company. When he left, the magazine was being run by 3 people, that's it.

I'll have to check those two out. One thing that I dig about BP is the transcriptions, how do Bass Gear and Bass Musician compare with the sight reading stuff?

I've taken to buying Bass Guitar (UK) which has some great lessons in it and the feel and quality of the magazine is awesome. It feels like a magazine rather than a flimsy newspaper type thing. The reviews are very well written also.

If anyone wants a copy and can't get one let me know. I can get one for you and mail it over.

Bass Gear is strictly gear. Bass Musician appears to have transcriptions as well as lessons. In the current issue, they transcribed a couple Marcus Miller pieces.

I just started going to GC and picking up issues here and there. I just get Guitar World to keep up on current acts and trends, b/c I'm in a current and trendy cover band... ;)

GW's BG Mag was 100x better IMO. I think they just started it too late and print media was/is already in such sharp decline.

Cocncur, I used to have subscriptions to both. BG folded, and I juts got tired of reading about Jaco every 3rd BP installment.

IMO they needed to have more articles about players people care about.

Not that the ones they cover aren't good, but it seemed they were writing like fanbois of a band/bass player they were into, not as bass jounalists.

I got tired of reading about Jazz and Indie bass players.
