Members BLAH
cheers for the help Thing is i proberly will be pretty smashed or halfway there when we start as we always drink when we're jamming. We have'nt actually got a gig planned yet but we are about ready, going to a studio next week to record a few songs, but we have lots of contacts where we can get a gig the next week. this is due mainly to the fact that we've bigged up our band for the last year even before we had any songs. The turnup is gonna be big, so this makes it worse. But hopefully everything will go sound.

I wouldn't drink at all (or at most just have a couple), and if you can - stop the rest of the band getting smashed n'all. Thing is that, like driving and sex you just think you can do it better when you're drunk If you're hammered you'll sound incoherent, you'll also come accross as a bit of an a-hole for being hammered on stage - nobodies going to think it's clever. Nobody either plays or sings better when they're drunk.Get hammered after the show
Members BiggRedd
We just had our first show a week and a half ago. It went great. I knew the sound guy and he gave me the number of a guy who books half the shows around town. He just asked what style we were and when we wanted to play. We rocked the place but only to about 40 of our friends and that was it. But the bar liked us and invited us back. We only had one band mess up that wasn't that bad and one or two minor solo mess ups. I'd suggest duct taping all of your wires and loose ends up. I even taped down my pedal board to make sure it wouldn't slide around. I told my friend (the sound guy) this is my first show so I would appreciate your help with the volume. That was easy, he tweaked it to what I would've put it at anyways. I also made a checklist of everything and triple checked it before I left the house. We just recently came up with a couple of the names of songs and I didn't remember it so we had to have a brief discussion on stage. It was dumb but no one will remember (unless we're watching the DVD of it). I made eye contact with everyone and we played awesome. Just did a 3 song demo yesterday and have another show set up for the 27th with the guy who books the other half of shows around Denver (in regards to metal)
Members 69lespaul
Originally posted by GCDEF Also, don't play too loud. Bartenders need to be able to hear their customers. Getting the bartender on your side is one of the smartest things you can do. Customers will let the bartender know if they like the band, and the bartender will let the owner know. Piss of the bartender and you won't be back. Along those lines, after sound check or at a break, ask the bartenders how the volume is. Remind the audience to tip the them. Tip them yourself if they've been waiting on you just as if you were a customer. I've even used bartenders at one club use us as references for another. The best advice yet. :D
Members 69lespaul
Originally posted by GCDEF Really bad plan. And again really great advice. Don't get drunk at a gig ever. I have twice....both with disasterous results. :D
