Members Brian Krashpad
So, just when my main band is at it's lowest point in 3 or 4 years, everyone but myself having announced they're leaving over the last few months, something decent happens. The bassist, who was the first to go, has been replaced; the new guy has played 3 or 4 shows now, so he's good to go. I have 2 candidates for rhythm guitarist but neither have had but 1 or 2 practices and neither could play within a month except in an emergency. I thought I had the drummer replaced but the new guy turned out to be a passive-aggressive flake who never returned calls and missed practices with no explanation, so {censored} him. All of this would be the usual band-rebuilding drama I've gone through umpteen times, but several months ago I signed up for the local newspaper's annual "Battle of the Bands:" http://www.gainesville.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050819/ENTERTAINMENT01/50728001/0/bands Last year they had this lame online voting thingy and my main band got defeated in the first round by some highschool kids (worse, they were really awful). My side band, however, against all odds, made it to the 4-band finals, so we got to play on a nice big stage at the county fair and made some money. This year, the contest is different. Unnamed people at the newspaper choose the 16 finalists, who play on four nights at a local club, and the winners of each of the four nights are finalists who play at the Fair. My side band, which is stable, did not get in this year. My main band, which is a mess, did. So, over the last few days I've been trying to cobble something together. The good news: in the last 2 or 3 hours, my outgoing rhythm guitarist AND drummer have both signed on for the competition, despite that they just did the same the same for our annual city 5-day local music showcase a few weeks ago! Full strength bay-bee! You'll prolly be hearing more about this here, not that I expect to win even the semi-final round. This, my friends, is why one never burns bridges.
