Didn't have a show but did a radio appearance yesterday evening. Did an interview and gave away some stuff and played some songs from our CDs and some other local bands we like. It seemed to go pretty good. We brought what was left of a six-pack in with us and split it w/the DJ and left him the leftover one. He's gonna be one of the judges for the Battle of the Bands we're in on Tuesday so that couldn't hurt.

What I surprised to see was the station had the front door wide open, and the DJ booth is like down a hall and around a corner from the front office. Although there were some station vehicles parked out front, it seemed like the DJ was the only person there, although I did see one other person briefly in a hallway (she must have been working elsewhere in the building) once. The station isn't in the "nicest" area of town and I'd think they might be a little more security-conscious.

Saturday we played an outdoor festival right on the water on Long Island Sound. Beautful spot with the stage set facing the water.

We were wedged in between a magic act and a group of pirate reenactors acting out a sword fight.

Ah, show biz!

Saturday night we played with Still Remains, Underminded, and Aiden in Goshen, IN, splitting our set with our friends in In the Face of War...anyway, 665 people paid, setting a record for the venue we played...

Anyway, we played really well, in front of a lot more people than usual, I'm just kinda sad that we didn't have our EPs yet, still it was a freaking great show, and we have a show tonight, with Seventh Star and xLooking Forwardx if anyone is around Ft Wayne, IN, the show is at 1025 Osage St, doors @ 5:30, music @ 6, $5

Played a duo gig opening an all-day Hurricane Katrina/Red Cross benefit show. Outdoor gig, which I always like (unless it rains).

It went pretty well. The only hitch was during sound check when I explained to the sound-man that I didn't need my electric back through the monitors, to which he replied "I'm not sure if I can separate the mains from the monitors."

OMG, zook...I'm having visions of the movie "Spinal Tap" where they're playing on the same bill as a puppet show!

Good on ya for having a sense of humor about it though...and the location sounded ideal.

The pirates were filling in because the scheduled act was to be an 8-year old kid, cute as cute can be, who sang country songs. He cancelled; probably thought it was beneath his experience. :D

I play as an acoustic duo with my wife. We have a healthy appreciation for our talents, and our limitations. The audience response was sincere. People danced and sang along to the songs. It's all good.

Had a great gig Friday night at a local bar. Lots of drunken women exposing themselves on the dance floor. Now that's rock and roll!

Saturday afternoon I did a freebie at a craft festival to raise funds for a monastery (!?!) and it was pretty good. We were the last act of the day and a bunch of people had already gone home. Only real problem was that I couldn't get the soundwoman (soundlady? soundperson?) to turn up my vocals in the monitors to the point that I could hear myself over the rest of the band. After two requests I quit asking. But hey, I started performing back in the 70's when nobody had monitors, so I got by. The crowd seemed to enjoy it, anyway.

Went to my supposed Saturday evening gig to find the bar deserted except for the bartender and three old guys at the bar. When I told the bartender I was there to set up I was told that there was no band scheduled. When I asked for the bar manager, I was told that she had been fired three weeks ago and that all the bands she had scheduled had been cancelled. Hey, thanks for telling me! Luckily I got ahold of the other band members before they had left home for the gig. Actually it was all for the good because I had picked up a flu bug and really needed to go home and go to bed, so I did.

Sunday evening I coordinated the jam session at the local bar. Great crowd and good jammers, even made some tip money.

More gigs coming up next weekend. Can't wait to see what happens.

Yes indeed...positive crowd response is ALWAYS a good thing. Glad to hear it went well overall.:)

Our gig saturday, well...first set started off with us being background music, second set was folks starting to come around, third set was people along the front of the stage singing along with the tunes, and ended with the local police making our sound tech cut the FOH speakers right as we were finishing the last song.

Ah, well...free beer and shrimp STILL rules.

Hey man, I know Mike Church from Still Remains. Cool! I need to hear his new band yet, this band. I used to record one of his old bands...Thunder Chicken.

Killer, if you see him again tell him Mike Dodge say howdy...he'll get a grin out of it.

Cool. He's in one of the best bands we've ever had the chance to play with...and you should definitely listen to them

Last Thursday my lead singer sent out an email to the rest of us asking if we could play a Katrina benefit on Sunday. After checking our schedules we decided late on Friday that we could.

The plan was that all we had to do was show up with our instruments because we'd be playing through another band's equipment. The venue (a local bar that we've played at a number of times--Buoy's bar in St. Joseph, MI) wanted to have 12 bands in 12 hours. I don't know how long they had been trying to plan this event, but they weren't able to get 12 bands. In fact I don't think they even got 12 acts total (including karaoke.)

I showed up at 7:00 because we were supposed to go on at 8:00. When I got there the previous act had just finished and was walking out the door with his guitar. At this time the auction started up. I should have brought more money, because they were selling off $25 gift cirtificates to local restaurants for $12-$13.

After the auction finished up, the band who oned the equipment started playing (apperently one of them had to leave early to go to work) and we sat and waited some more--and drank more.

I had told my family I'd be home by 9:30 to help with the rest of the weekend chores and homework. At about 9:15 my band finally got on. We played to a house packed with tables and chairs for about an hour, then I grabbed my stuff and went home.

I don't think I'll agree to do another benefit that's only being planned for 2 days from when I first hear about it.

OK.

It's 6 pm here now, clocked out at 5 and had several leftover beers from my Tuesday night fiasco show (hmm, hadn't mentioned that had I?) in the corporate fridge, am starting on the last of those now, then home and out to dindin with la familia.
