how to recover from a disappointing gig

in 20+ years, i've had only a handful of gigs that were "completely" satisfying. Not because the rest were bad, but because I think as a player, i'm my own worst critic. Things I worried about or thought sucked were a blink in time not noticed by too many people. No need to sweat that {censored}. We record live and sometimes video tape gigs and when I thought it was horrible really wasn't as bad as I thought. As far as how to get over it?? Set your rig up as quick as possible and play your ass off. Practice is the best cure for getting back into it. I've found that putting it down and thinking about it only makes the bad taste worse. But don't dismiss what made it a bad show and learn from it. If your like most guys in bands quitting is not an option so don't waste your time thinkin like that. But all the sayings apply, take the good with the bad, don't dwell on it, get back on the horse that kicked you off etc.... All part of the gig man!! :)

Don't you just hate it when you have a sucky gig, the crowd was dead, and your performance sucked bigger than a billion Hoovers in a black hole...and someone comes up and says "Great band"...you feel like decking the guy? :D

Take heart in the fact that EVERYONE has a sucky gig every now and then. For whatever reason...everyone draws the short straw once in awhile...
