Members retish
I like the rocktron replitone. You should be able to find one in your price range. They make a 120 watt with 2x12s and a 60 watt with a single 12. I have the 60 watt version and it's incredibly loud. The tones are very, very nice. There are also usable effects built into the amp (not cheesey processed-sounding effects, real quality stuff!). You can play in a band with another guitarist that is using a tube amp and be proud of your tone (no mean feat for solid state amp). IMHO, the replitone is the biggest sleeper amp around. I don't know why rocktron doesn't get any attention in the gearhead community--they make some wonderful products. That being said, Peavey classic 30's kick butt, too. I'm with the guy that thinks the 30 sounds better than the 50. You don't need to go above 5 unless you're playing really large halls.

Members The_Weevil
+1 on the Peavey Classic. The 30 should be plenty for your stated goals. Getting that loud should not be a problem. The only thing about a 1x12 is that they tend to be rather directional in my opinion. I own the 50, and I absolutely love it, think I gave $450 for it (used). It will probably be the last amp I ever buy. It sounds bigger than the 1x12s, which helps if you're playing a big room or outside. I had owned a Peavey Bandit 112 for about 15 years, and while it was a very solid amp, and plenty loud, the distortion just plain sucked. I'd use the clean channel for everything. It had no problem keeping up with much larger amps, but it was time to go for something better.

I doubt you'll get a perfect fit for that money. Most amps (in that price range at least) are unable to cover funk to metal properly.I use a cheap Laney LC50 II (all tube 50W)and 1-2 pedals in front for the metal stuff. Gotta need 50 tube Watts if you need a dead clean sound at loud volumes. Mine stays 100% clean while ripping my ears off on stage if I want.Otherwise a 30W tube amp is already overkill if you play only with medium to high gain.Any gig past 80-100 people in the audience needs to have the amps mic'd anyway (if not for volume purposes than at least for better dispersion)

Hey Terry, is the 1x12 Crate in tweed or black Tolex? I've got a line on a tweed Crate 1x12 but the seller is kinda digitally challenged and I haven't seen pics yet. He's described the one he's selling as a tweed 1x12 with brown (he may mean oxblood) grille and a master volume, he wasn't sure off the top of his head whether it was 30 or 50 W. He described it as a "Crate Club Cube," which I've googled to very little effect.I know it's at least 6 years old but that's about it. He mentioned it does have an extension speaker out, though he's not sure what the output impedance is.He's selling the amp for $150!It should be in good shape, this guy is I guess sorta semi-retired from gigging and is cleaning house and selling stuff for less than he could get on Ebay just to move it. In fact, this same feller sold me this LP Classic in almost-mint shape w/ohsc for $750:I figure at $150 if the Crate is working at all it's a steal. It's a local sale so no shipping.BK

With the variable power settings 4 , 30 , 60 and 120 watt settings I can set this thing to play anywhere . All the effects are right on . With the great mix of digital and tubes I can get any tone I need at the touch of my toe .

Members KingKabong
Peavey Triple XXX! Been using it for a couple years now, it's been rock solid, as expected. I normally run with a full stack, 2 Marshall 4x12's. Volume depends on what the venue will allow really. I have a pretty simple setup, just a tuner and noise gate between my guitar and head. Love the tone, have E34L's in it, would definitely buy another if something happened to this one.

It is good to use here and their or run a signal through the pod and amp and record both.
