Bleh. All I can say is, be glad you even had a gig. I've been working insane hours the past month or so and can't do any gigs till probably next month. :(

Granted this is unusual for me, and I'm doing it for the extra $$$ which I'm using in part to finance band projects, but meanwhile it still bites.

Yeah, it's fun. I don't know why bars have bands till 1:30 on a week night though. There was a good crowd till around midnight. After that maybe 15 people. Hardly seems worth it to play that late for so few people.

I had some people from work out there. Being a boss, it doesn't look good to show up late because of other activities. :(

Drive 110 miles to go to gig to support a friend of mine because I didn't think anyone else would be there.

Crash at a friends house at 2:30 am.

Get up at 6:00 am drive back home 110 miles in oder to be at work by 8:30 am.

Friday...bad...:yawn::(

Wow, that's either extreme loyalty or extreme insanity.... or both.

Man that sounds like my every weekend. I get back from a gig and hit the sheets around 3am. The kids almost always bust through the door at 7-7:30 to see Daddy. Bless my wife for trying to keep the rugrats out but when they've made up their mind it's gonna happen!

This is one of the main reasons I don't want kids.

No kidding. (heh-heh)

Seriously, what the hell is wrong with children? When I was growing up, if my dad was taking a nap, sleeping in, or even closing his eyes, ABSOLUTE SILENCE was expected and enforced. Looking back, it felt a bit harsh, but now I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be like this. It's all about respect. Little {censored}ers.

Yeah, unless it's a college bar it's almost never busy until 1:30 on a weeknight. I play one bar like that but the others are pretty much like what you describe.

Yeah, just wait until you get my age (53). Our singer is a nurse doing a 32 hr. weekend shift, so we are only doing Friday night gigs right now. I work all day, help load in, play 4 hours, load out-get home around 3 a.m. Sometimes I have to work on Saturday @ 7 a.m. I am really too old for this. We need roadies, not groupies............

yesterday (Thurs.) nite I played with my band until 1 AM but didn't get to sleep 'til 3 AM. Up at 7 AM, worked 9 hrs on the road Fri. without a break, went directly to a solo piano gig for the next 2 hrs, back home to change and nuke a hot dawg and then played with my band 'til 3AM.. Napped in my truck for 1 1/2 hrs, drove home, and here I am, STILL not a wealthy man but for some strange reason rather tired.:)

Just what exactly are these "Weekends" and "Weekdays" you speak of? I'm surmising that today, Saturday, is a "Weekday", as I'm at work...and "Weekend" must mean Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, since I'm off. But not every week. And some "workdays" begin at 7 pm and end at 5 am. I've had a lot of gigs on "Weekday" nights...Friday and Saturday, and had to be up at 4 am after an hour's doze or so. I can't do that two nights in a row. What sucks is that sometimes when I get a weekend off, there's absolutely nothing going on on Friday or Saturday night, because the rest of the world is calling it Monday and Tuesday.

Welcome to the world of the rotating shift worker.

Why not have groupie/roadies?

I've worked with a couple of band's whose wives/groupies would help pack and load out my gear! Created a terrible fetish for me...do you know how tough it is to find pics of hot girls dressed sexy w/high heels...and pushing road cases!

(Hmmm...pauses..."Oh Bndgrl...I've got an idea how you can make some money with that nice new camera!") LOL!

"Maybe I should have tried "DOSG" as a screen name. "Dirty, Old, Soundguy!

I started reading this and my first thought was...they better not be getting any ideas... :D

I am very much a girly girl and much prefer to sit back and watch hot, sweaty men lift heavy things rather than risk the chance of possibly chipping a nail. ;) Seriously.

Wow and hasn't that camera all ready more than made up for what I paid for it?!!:D
