Members amplayer
We had a club owner in New Hampshire tell us that no drinking was allowed because of the law and employee thing.I can't say for sure if it really is a law. However, I don't care because I don't drink on stage. My playing goes downhill in a hurry when I drink, so I just don't.Plus, at the end of the night, when some of the patrons are drunk and in a fighting mood, it's nice to have my wits about me so I don't get into unnecessary trouble. Members brake
I like having a drink onstage. I dont really see any problem with it, and, correct me if I'm wrong - your job is to get people to buy more drinks.

What other job is it safe to drink while working? Should the bartenders, waitresses, etc. be allowed to drink or should it be illegal?
Members mrcpro
It's been a long time since I've run into a place that won't let you drink onstage. Most places encourage the musicians to run up a tab so they won't have to pay them as much. Some places are counting on it as a way to get the music at less than full price. As a recovering alcoholic, I've bumped into this from a different angle. There have been a couple of times that I've been told (not by management) that the reason I'm not working a room as often as I'd like is because I don't run up tabs. And these weren't dives either...they were upscale rooms. Still, my favorite rooms are those that comp you, even though I can't take advantage of it anymore. They are usually mom and pop joints... places that treat musicians as friends...more than just help. And unfortunately, they seem to be dying out in these parts. I've lost a couple of them in the last year. And now... this is for you young 'uns out there.... in rooms that don't meter the drinks, when the bartender slides you a drink once in a while when no one's looking....be sure to tip them at the end of the week. They're doing you right and sticking their necks out for you. Remember...what goes 'round...
