Do you provide your own lights?

We never used to put much emphasis on lights. That has changed dramatically.

We have found a light guy who we pretty much rent out every time we can.

He's got lights that are called MAC20's I believe? They are ridiculously expensive but they are well worth it and absolutely incredible.

To rent the system is relatively inexpensive but for a band on a tight budget this would not be an option. These are lights that the top pros use and you would know why if you've ever seen them in action.

It has increased the appeal of our bands live performance immeasureably.

We now advertise our band as a full stage show production and we have been able to ask for more money per gig and get it. The bottom line as always is drawing a crowd. We feel the investment in a light show is worth it.

OK....I've been thinking about building something similar, but w/ pedals to increase/decrease the amount of light from each lightsource, for blending colors, or possibly rigging up some on/off "dimmers" and maybe gluing something to the tops (neoprene rubber?), so that I can get a grip on them with the soles of my boot to turn them up or down...

Basically, something I can run from the stage when I need to, but a light/sound person could also run when available...obviously, the over-head projector is beyond my abilities (unless I get cloned)!

I wonder if you could build a line voltage dimmer into an old foot-controled volume pedal (I think the old ones had gears that you could rearange to work the dimmer)? You'd have to make sure that the pedal is well grounded as the ground is where the dimmer loses the extra energy as heat. I've never tried this but it seems feasible. I don't think a pedal alone would work as its set up for low voltage, not line voltage.

Yeah, that's the problem I've run up against...a friend tried to make a similar device out of a Sho-Bud volume pedal and got a heck of a jolt of electricity for his troubles!
