That guy never stopped walking! Everyone in Skynyrd was top-notch. Just knowing the opening chords to "Sweet Home Alabama" or "Simple Man" doesn't do them justice. Members THB
This entire thread is a testament to the strength of a good hook. The two songs most in question here, Sweet Home Alabama and Stairway To Heaven, contain, and not coincidentally, two of the most memorable musical hooks ever written. I hope you songwriters are paying attention here, because the lesson to be taken from this thread is simple: if you want to write a song that people will still want to hear in the year 2035, pay attention to the hook! So is it safe to assume that no matter how drunk ( or out of thier skulls ) some of these people are they would recognize the " hook " I can hear it now ... " Yeah man !!!!! alright !!!!!! Led Zep ... YYYYEEEEEAAAHHHH We use to do " Heartbreaker " and get that reaction . In my opinion ....any " Classic Rock " band should have a couple of songs from each of those bands . It should be a given . But I also agree with some songs are just way over done . I use to try to play cool B side kinda stuff . You know the cool songs from those bands that you don't hear on the radio at least twice a day .
