Rochester NY Original Rock Bands

Thought I would give networking through the HC community a shot since I have been a member here for a few years.

Just wondering if there are other HC members playing in modern rock type bands doing original material in the Rochester, NY area.

I am one of the guitarists in the band Bitter. We are doing originals, but are also starting to throw in a few covers. Right now we have about an hour and a half worth of material. The band played a dozen shows or so before I joined at Steel Music Hall mostly. This month we started getting into some of the bars though for paying gigs. Spenders and Milestones so far.

Since we don't have a full nights worth of music we really need to team up with other bands to make music for these places all night. We opened twice and then did our set as the closing band at Milestones. So if anyone out there is in a similar situation or is looking to work together to break into this local scene, please contact me.

Thanks,

Pete

Hey, Pete! I'm from a group in Rochester, and we do some originals, but they are mostly instrumental and easy listening stuff. I'm afraid I can't help you much on that front as we do Chriatian or coffee-house type stuff (Circle of Friends)... We typically do charity events or banquets. We played for 1600 at the Convention Center for an hour a couple of weeks ago and around 450 at the Burgundy Basin Inn last week...

Sounds like you are off to a good start though as Milestones is a helluva good gig for just starting out! Have you checked into the festival scene? Shorter sets might fill those bills... Good luck, man!

Pete... guess who?!!!

This is John(keyboard man), remember me?! I'm still playing with Steve Grills atm, but I've also been member of a local original progressive rock band named Mind Sky for a couple of years. We just released a CD earlier this year. I'm not entirely sure if our type of rock would be a fit to do double billing with your band. But, it looks like you guys are getting some work. Feel free to PM me if you want to contact me and I'll PM you back with my new phone#.

Hey John. Good to hear from you man.

I have recently heard of Mind Sky. Not sure where, but I want to say maybe someone in my band mentioned you guys.

Anyway I will check out your music. You can check us out at www.bitter-rochester.com

We really don't have very good quality recordings of our stuff right now, but it will give you an idea. If you listen to the studio stuff think bigger more aggressive distorted guitars :) I just joined like 2 months ago.

I have a new number as well so I will PM you.

And yes, we were psyched to get the Milestones gig! These guys did a battle of the bands there when they were still a trio this past spring. It went very well and looks like we may have a chance to play there again.

Thanks!

Pete,

Sounds like a good start for your band.

I cant help with the live gigs. However, if you are interested in additional original material to bulk up you set list- I'd be happy to have a live act pick up some of my tunes.

Check some out here.

Let me know when and where you guys are playing some time and I will come check it out. I don't play that style of music, but I do enjoy it!

Check the site for dates. It is not all there yet but we will be at Milestones probably sometime in Nov/Dec. Some of us were in another band for years and played there every weds night for 3 and a half years.

Is that your band's website? I play with the bass player in another band.

Yeah it is. I am just getting it up and running with a guy that was a programmer at Xerox. Listen to the MP3's. Dennis has a pretty good instinct for Reggae.
