Chicago Forumites: Looking For A Place To Gig

I can normally be found on the bass forum, but thought I'd reach more folks over here.

 

My band, Yard Fulla Cars (see link in sig), is looking for a place to place in the Chicago area on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. We're a new band in the area and most recently played at Club 30 West in Frankfort this past Saturday night. We've also played at Mike & Denise's Pub in Aurora. We're looking for a place to play that is more centrally located in the Chicago area as our band members span the Chicagoland area.

 

As of now, we don't have a demo but I do have a few soundboard recordings of decent quality if an owner must hear us. The strength of our band is our vocals. We play uptempo, modern country with a few rock tunes thrown in for good measure.

 

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

Weds before Thanksgiving is a pretty cherry gig night so you might be a little late getting that date booked this late. My band pretty much plays within the city itself - that's central! Here's some off the cuff thoughts.

 

a) Joe's on Weed has "country friday nights", and two rooms both with stages (on full on pro stage, another in their bar - u bring the PA). Tough place to get in the door as a band though (www.joesbar.com)

 

b) Big Horse Saloon - dive on Milwaukee in bucktown always looking for acts w/ a following

 

c) Goose Island Wrigleyville - on Clark near Wrigley Field - agian, you need to bring 40+ folks to the gig to get booked and paid.

 

d) check the Reader (www.chireader.com) classifieds under "Music" as sometimes more obscure places are asking for bands ....same with Craigslist

 

e) You guys will likely need a real demo to get booked.

we don't have a date to offer you for that wednesday in specific, but i can do my best as the booking director for wmxm 88.9 fm to keep you informed with the latest dates/openings at lake forest college.

Our lead singer lives in Lake Bluff though the rest of us are pretty spread out. In fact, we played a block party there last month.
