Members BndGrl
Anybody have any good gig reports from this weekend? I actually have one this time...sort of. I saw an AMAZINGLY KICK ASS show this weekend. It seriously was one of the best shows I have ever seen!! The band was as tight as I've ever seen them, the lighting and sound were in{censored}ingcredible, the crowd was totally into it and at the front of the stage all night. It was an AWESOME show! OH...and we had free porn at the hotel! Here are some pics! http://www.onlinedigitaldesigns.com/DisengagedRelease
Members Brian Krashpad
I finally got somethin for ya! Saturday I played someting called Boo-Fest 2005 (abbreviated to "B005," pronounced "boo-thousand five") it has been an annual affair near Halloween (because of the rainy season this year the organizers had it after Halloween to give the site an extra week to dry out) for the last 4 or 5 years, and has it's origins way back in the late 70's. Crazy ex-hippies do know how to throw a party. To give you some idea, the organizers call themselves the "Reality Prevention Patrol." They also use the "Greek letters" sigma, phi, and a null (slotted zero)-- standing for "signify nothing" for their fictitious "fraternity." Big private property on a lake with primitive camping, several bands on Friday night and more bands on Saturday on an outdoor stage, laser lights, and general craziness. We even got official band laminates. Here's a link to the fest: http://www.scheckite.net Got out to the site just at dusk, glad I didn't have to try finding it in the dark! My friends in the acoustic duo (guitar/mandocello) Spellbox opened. Man they were good, that girl has a great voice. Right before they went on they're at their mics and I'm setting up my guitars sidestage (amp was already onstage, we backlined 3 bands at once for quick changeovers) and I hear over the PA "Hey, Krashpad", so I go up front thinking Shawn Spellbox is gonna need to have me get him some gear or do something technical or something, and Shawn goes, "Can we have a couple beers, we'll give a couple of ours later?" Haha, now I'm a beer roadie! So I run over to the Rockmobile, fetch a couple coldies outta my cooler and run up onstage in the required "you can't see me because I'm doing the roadie crouch" stance and set beers at both their feet. So after their set it's dark and we go on. I've already had a few but can't remember making any massive mistakes. A couple songs in the soundguy uses his talkback through the monitors "Guys, you're killing us with the stage volume, can you back off some?" So we turn down a smidge and proceed. No major mishaps and I did the usual over-the-top antics for the closer, jumping down off the stage (it was just like a foot up) into the grass out front and playing kneeling and rolling around and stuff. The hippies (and others) seemed to like it. Played the LP Classic for the whole set but brought the Studio DC and the Ric as backups. After our set Rob Dark, from whom I got the Ric, came up and complimented me on the Studio asking what model it was, etc. Later on I noticed when his band played he had Amelia, the flying V I traded to him, there as a backup too. After the HotHeads set I quickly loaded-out to the Rockmobile and got all my gear secured for the night. After us was our drummer's side band, Misfit Toys. They have a girl singer who's like 13 or 14 years old. Their rhythm guitarist went bonzo about 10 days ago (like in the looney-bin) so they played with just one guitar. I prefer a 2-guitar sound but their lead player is very good so it sounded OK. I later learned that they weren't very happy with the singer's perfomrmance but she covered well enough that I didn't notice anything major. I did notice she had her cell phone clipped to the leg of her pants during the set, apparently it rang while she was onstage but I didn't hear it go off with all the music. After Misfit Toys Big Oil came on, they are sorta GVL's y'allternative kings and their two front guys have a long local band pedigree. One of them is the guy I got the Ric from. They played their usual good set. Don't remember much more. Beer was flowing and I was drinking. Woke up sometime later in the Rockmobile, seated in the driver's seat. Crawled out and laid down in the back (which had been my plan) wedged between the 4x12 and the guitars. Woke up early Sunday morning. Got out of the van to take a pee and Hoyt was sleeping in the driver's seat of his car, he goes "You're alive!" which kinda made me wonder what else may've occurred the previous evening. Went back to the van and tried to doze a little more, but I was awake so I ate an apple and drove back to GVL and unloaded the 4x12 into the office and went to sleep for awhile. Woke up around 11:30 and took a shower and then did some work. Got home around 12:30 or 1. Here's a couiple pix, good shot of the backline stage left, my Sunn 200S head with the homemade tube guard (a piece of laminate flooring!) atop of my Risson 4x12, and Hoyt's Music Man head atop his Sovtek vert 2x12: Me goofing during the set (much to my wife's chagrin, my daughter did my nails, kinda a lavender/gunmetal color): BK

Great minds think alike I guess.

Members CloseEnoughRocks
Here's a gig-related report - though it should probably go in the "stupidest thing you've ever done" thread. I sliced open the tip of my middle finger/fretting hand last Wednesday. No biggie, I thought, since Hurricane Wilma canceled our weekend gig. Friday morning, I get the call. The complex has brought in massive generators and the gig is on. So, I bought some special finger band-aids and medical tape on the way to the gig and hoped for the best. Two minutes before go time I realised I put too much tape on and couldn't bend my finger at the knuckle, so I grab my leatherman out of my gig bag to trim some tape. Being ever so careful to cut AWAY from my finger, I managed to cut a chunk off the tip of the next finger over (my ring finger). We're actually being introduced as I'm staunching the blood flow and bandaging up this finger. I managed to get through the night without any trainwrecks - the worst that happened was a bunch of chords with missing notes. The next morning I'm putting up my mailbox that H. Wilma had blown down the street. After doing all the drilling and "JB Welding", I took off the gloves and, last minute, decided to add a bungee chord while the JBW was drying. My hand slipped and I put one of those, "Oh, man, this is really bleeding" type slices in the fingertip of my first finger. So Saturday nights gig was done with three fingers of my fretting hand in bandages. What a dork I am. SR PS...Johnson & Johnson liquid bandage is like superglue for skin. I'd have never got though Sat night without it.

All those knives flashing around and I never got one cut on my hands. My arms, however, looked like someone was playing tic-tac-toe on them. Haha, well it's a motley collection in that band for sure. Myself and the bassist are punk rockers, the lead singer is just sorta "out there" and the most "fashioned-challenged" among us, the drummer is an oldschool power pop/classic rock guy (former Cheap Trick drum tech). I actually try to "tone things down" for that band, and dress more my own stage sense in my main band.. BK

Members GZsound
Well, as I took the highway off ramp to get to our gig Saturday night, I noticed the McDonalds on the corner was closed...hmm. Then I noticed EVERYTHING was closed. The whole town was without power. So we get to the club, hang around a half hour or so and eventually a guy shows up with a generator and we decide we can set up enough stuff to at least play some music....the place was packed. So we just about get a cut down set up going, bass and lead guitar through the PA, Just two lights, etc., the power comes on. We enced up starting a half hour late, but had a great gig anyway. It was interesting setting up with flashlights.
