Give 'em enough rope...

A while back I posted about a particularly obnoxious band who opened for us. Long story short - the band were narked because we were headlining and they felt that they should have, so heckled us during soundcheck, and much much worse, accidentally-on-purpose jumped on my guitar (in case) and knocked my amp off a 3-foot-high crate.

This was about two or three months ago, and everyone's moved on. Then last week I got a spam email from their manager about another of their shows.

The mail implored us to go listen to the band's tracks on Myspace, and included a link to their profile. So I checked it out, and see that they've mentioned our fateful show right on their front page. The entry is basically a load of tosh about how we brown nosed our way up the bill (false) and gloating about how they trashed our stuff as well as the club's equipment.

I was a bit pissed off, more about the crack about us using devious means to get a higher billing than anything else. That was until I noticed who else was on the circulation list (dude clearly doesn't know the difference between Cc and Bcc).

Basically, he's directed half of London's promoters and booking agents to a website where his band not only admits to, but brags about deliberately trashing a club venue and another band's gear. I've already heard through the grapevine that two high profile promoters and an agent have said there's no way they'll deal with this band now.

Ah, that one was a while ago, in the beginning of September. The only reason I posted about it again is that I got this spam email from them the other day. They're just a bunch of little 17-year-olds who think that badmouthing other bands and trashing equipment is punk rock. Apparently it's starting to backfire on them.

But now that you mention it, two bad experiences in the space of ten gigs...hmm, law of averages isn't too good here is it?;)

it's one thing messing pissing off bands, it's another pissing off promoters.

my bro is self employed as a promoter and even in a big city like this the music scene is incredibly closed with regards to the higher echelons of bands, promoters etc... and pissing off one promoter can literally ruin a band.:)

Move on Brassic ...

Promoters give {censored} about what band X says about band Y,

whether in a mail or else.

And those promoters who WOULD actually listen to this kind of stuff would also be highly expectable to give you trouble anyway (not paying, overbooking, whatever unprofessional manners ... ).

So the better if you don't get their gigs.

How?? You are just giving them some extra exposure, would be pretty decent of you after the way they've treated you...

You can't be responsible for anyone's reaction to it

BTW, what does your band play and where??
