Members SeeU 22
What newer songs have you cover bands been doing that are going over well. I'm talking something that's been released in the last couple of years. We have full instrumentation and both female and male vocals, so hit me with whats working for you. Members ned911
Beverly Hills by Weezer seems to be a crowd fav, it gets them singing along pretty good.
Members Nobody Told Me
Next gig we're doing Welcome Home by Coheed & Cambria. No one will dance to it, but every now and then you gotta do something to make yourself happy. It'll be one of those songs that only band types come up and talk to you about. Members vanlatte
While not exactly "new", Cake usually seems to go over prettywell around here, especially "Short Skirt, Long Jacket"
Members cherri
We do about half originals and half covers on a four -hour show. These are some new that have been going over well: "Crazy Dream" - Los Lonely Boys"Woman Across the River" - Allman Bros"Evidence" - Susan Tedeschi
Members fastplant
No offense, but none of these songs are what I'd classify as "new." That Coheed song maybe, but it's pretty heavy. This was always the biggest issue in my band; deciding what brand spankin' new songs to do. It's tough because to start playing them right out of the gate you kind of have to take a gamble on them. Basically you learn them before they get really big so that by the time they are big you're playing them, and you're not learning them when they've already peaked. It's a science really, to determine if a song will be big or not. We've learned quite a few songs that never really went anywhere.
Members Damon Holland
Beverly Hills for sure. American Idiot goes over well. Remedy by Nickelback is a good one. Also Photograph. The crowd likes to sing along to Beverly Hills and American Idiot.

While I agree, the original poster mentioned 'new' as being released in the last few years. I'm thinking they were just looking to update their song list a bit, not necessarily looking to have the freshest material. You are definately right on wanting/needing to pick up on them before they peak if you want genuinely 'new" tunes.

Given many pop songs can be learnt within a few days (even hours) I dont see much point in jumping the gun and speculating on hits. As you said you can waste time doing that if playing hits is your aim. Your audience is likely to consider anything currently on the charts is pretty new. Very true, and I wasn't trying to be insulting, sorry if it came out that way. But I found that's probably the best way to keep yourself in business; to keep one step ahead of the radio so that by the time the song gets big you're already playing it. So in those terms, what brand new songs is everyone learning?
Members rim
"Stacy's Mom" by Fountains of Wayne - I think it's within 3 years. Another vote for "American Idiot" by Green Day, but there are probably 2 more songs from the album you can do. We've wanted to do 1 or 2 The Killers songs. Check them out, too. I think these are new enough (though too mellow for our set lists): "The Reason" by Hoobstank"Dare You to Move" by ???
