Lead Singer/Bass player problems! GRR!

Hey all, I'm the guitarist in a three piece band that kinda has the rush or cream setup as the singer and bass player in one. He creates great bass riffs and sings and writes very well, probably better then me or the drummer. The problem is that as of late, he just seems not to care anymore. He's in some sort of "funk", probably due to his ex-gf cheating on him. To compound the situation, his friend introduced him to the maryjane which makes him even less wanting to do anything. We plan on having three or 4 gigs in the next few months that we've booked or are planning on booking. He calls me up tonight telling me that because he's going to college and working at a grocery store(tops), that he doesnt think we're going to be able to practice or do any gigs. Me and the drummer are both at college and my drummer also has two jobs w/ that but still manages to make it to band practices and be productive. I dont know. Everytime I yalk to the bass player, he just gets more discouraged about the band and life in general and I seriously dont know if he's going to quit or not. Should me and the drummer start looking for a bass player and/or singer yet or wait it out til he "officially" quits(if he infact does)?

Players come and go, attitudes change, situations change. The bands that seem to last the longest, on average, are the ones mader up of married guys with kids, because they tend to be a bit more tied down and stable.

At your age, just take bands for what they are and don't get too attached to players, as you're likely to go through quite a few in the next ten or so years. Between 18 and 28, I played with about 7 bands.

I'm a big fan of talking things through, but this is more of a done deal.

The bass player has already announced he won't have time to rehearse or gig. That's that for the band.

All that's left is to tell him you're very sorry he's leaving, and you hope you can remain friends.

Than either start auditioning or looking to become part of a larger band.

funny, to me, that sounds like he quit already.

You guys are now officially a two piece...one of you better learn to sing...and start looking for a bassist.
