Hey all,

Well I'm here at NAMM, and after one day I've already seen a few things that will no doubt be of great interest to us gigging folks. Among the stuff I've checked out:

I'll have full reports on this stuff later, and much more I'm sure! Meanwhile, anything specific that you guys would like me to check out? Post it here today or tomorrow and I'll do it!

I'm kind of disappointed. Mesa is just making minor adjustments to their amps, Marshall isnt doing anything new, and Fender's new hyped amp is apparently not even that great. Nothing really "new" or "exciting" it seems, yaknow - unless theyre holding out til the weekend to make big annoucements.

Still, thanks for the report, Lee! :thu:

I have a request....

Go by the Plek booth, and tell my buddy Philtone (has a scraggly patch of fur on his chin, and most likely wearing a ball cap to hide his premature chrome dome) and remind him that he is supposed to bring back an autographed something-or-other for his buddy Crusty....

Gibson does their room as "invite only" because they don't want everyone to know the truth....

Theirs is absolutely the ugliest booth at the NAMM show. Most of the room is filled with Baldwin pianos, and then they have a few short walls with a few of their guitar hanging on some fancy gray slatwall.

I'm not going to put down Gibson, as they do put out a fine product and I know they just don't want their gear molested by all the "commonfolk" at the NAMM show, but I'm here to tell you that you're really not missing out on anything. GIbson doesn't need NAMM.

Their after-parties tend to rock though.:thu:

They're letting in people without invitations or meetings after 5pm, which leaves an hour to look around. They're very strict about it too (to the point of offending some people).

Fender on the other hand is wide open, and is PACKED! I heard one of their new amps about an hour ago, and it sounded great. Reminded me of an early Marshall, ala Free - All Right Now.

The little Vox AC15CC looks great, and sounds really good too, even with all the other NAMM noise going on. With a "street price" of round $600, I think they'll sell a load of them (as long as they don't have any quality issues).

Well, back to the show.

Just got back from the Yamaha concert; Gavin DeGraw, kd lang, Natalie Cole, Sarah McLachlin, Al Jareau, and Brian Wilson, hosted by Randy Jackson. This was one amazing concert! They had a 15 (!) piece band for everyone except Brian, who had his own 11 piece band.

Well, I'm beat... gotta get up again in 5 hours and get ready for day 3!

Sorry about the delayed reply... I'm not certain... as soon as I pushed my way through the crowd to get to the amps, the demo was over. It really sounded good though.

One thing i noticed was the proliferation of Chinese-made equipment, and I mean ALL types of products, including guitars, amps, P.A.s, recording devices, pianos, lights, and everything else. It really hit home how rare U.S.-made products are these days...

What'll happen when ALL the manufacturing moves from every other country in the world to China? How will everyone pay for the stuff when all the jobs are gone?

:confused::(
