"so i was hanging with these big dogs up on the mountain, cause i've been to the mountain you know, it was right after i played madison square, then billy sheehan rode up on Elvis's harley, he had a plaster cast of Jimi Hendrix's dick and got jiggy with janice joplin's second cousin's niece... you see the key to making it big is to play guitar and grow an extra finger, my cousin had 6 fingers. and i know this because i have TONS of experience in the music biz, but i won't say what that experience is because i'm having so much damn fun pretending to be important. but believe me because i've made a bunch of money doing that thing that i won't tell you about although, that other time, i made even MORE money doing that other thing that i also won't tell you about." YEAHcan you vouch for this guy and what he's saying ? if you can i'll retract my "he's full of crap" accusation and apologize. I was using your own ignorant argument to illustrate a point there Captain Smartypants. Apparently the attempt was obvious to everyone but you. As far as gtrbass' comments, yeah phrases like "been to the mountain" may seem slightly sprinkled with cheese, but I don't really question their validity. I have no reason to. You on the otherhand have yet to contribute anything worthwhile.
Members gtrbass Posted March 23, 2006 Members Posted March 23, 2006 Mr. Cornfordsnob, I don't frequently have much time to post. Lately, I've had some spare time to surf the web and hence post here. I really would prefer a tad of anonymity. You see I have "been to the mountain" along with many others. I have player's credits (as a session player) on some RIAA Gold and platimum certified albums. I have toured (as a sideman) on some arena tours. I have been in a band that was signed to Epic, another that was signed to Geffen, and a few that were on indies. I have also worked as an audio engineer in some of the biggest studios in LA. As far as experience goes, that's about as real as it gets. Many of the people who post here are performers who play in cover bands, or younger musicians who are just starting out. They don't necessarily have the experiences I, or someone like Lee Flier does. I have been involved with the music business for 25 years, 20 of it in Hollywood. That's quite a bit different from someone who lives and plays in Des Moines, and they might be interested in hearing about what it's like in LA. I still make music as I am a passionate about it as anyone else. It is music I want to make as opposed to trying to get rich from it. I derive most of my income from pursuits outside the music industry. This is not because I am a failure, or untalented. I just simply came to the logical conclusion that I could make a better life for my family doing other things. This thread is about the state of affairs in the buiness. I'm simply sharing my perspective. I'm sorry if what I have stated strikes a nerve with you. I'm just sharing with you what I have seen and been through. If you wish to call me a liar and disregard what I've stated, feel free. Ohh, Cornford? Nice amps, but I prefer my Mohave's

Members gtrbass Posted March 23, 2006 Members Posted March 23, 2006 Mr Cornford, Why don't you tell us about yourself since you seem to be certain I'm not as experienced as I claim.

Members SpacedCowboy Posted March 23, 2006 Members Posted March 23, 2006 On behalf of my bandmate THX, I want to say thank you all for your responses and words of advice to his thread. Now, in the words of Officer Barbrady, I also want to say, "OK, people, move along, nothing to see here." (Though judging by the nasty turn this thread has suddenly taken, it may go away anyhow.) And as for YOU, THX...how many times do I have to tell you... NEVER POST A THREAD ON HC DURING TAX TIME!!! You know how you get...daaaaaammmmmnnn...
