Members elbow Posted March 8, 2006 Members Posted March 8, 2006 ToolThe WhoACDCAlison Krauss & Union Station A little diverse, especially on that last one.. but she and her band are awesome live. Interestingly enough, I have no albums or CDs of these bands and they are not anywhere near my favorites to listen to, but they had great live shows.
Members highwaystar50 Posted March 21, 2006 Members Posted March 21, 2006 I'm with triton76 on the Neal Morse Testimony show in Whittier - a great show and the best show I've ever been to. Makes me wish I'd seen Spock's Beard and Transatlantic. A couple of Genesis shows in the mid to late 70's at the L.A. Forum would complete my top three list. Karl
Members twotubman Posted March 22, 2006 Members Posted March 22, 2006 Blue Oyster Cult around '74 in Houston was probably the best live show I've seen. They barely even paused between songs, it was just relentless. Most of the time after shows we would go somewhere to party, after that one we barely had the energy to drive home in silence.

Members way2fat Posted March 22, 2006 Members Posted March 22, 2006 Well done, Tom. You guys heard of Spirit across the water? First time I tripped, 12 Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus was on the stereo. Changed my outlook, that's for sure. Check out Kapt. Kopter and the (Fabulous) Twirly Birds if you like Randy California's guitar playing. Of the ones I've attended I liked: Dr. JohnLittle FeatSteve Riley and the Mamou PlayboysThe BandThe Nashville Bluegrass BandThe Who

Members way2fat Posted March 22, 2006 Members Posted March 22, 2006 Coming to tiny Carbondale, IL, in April - Galactic, who may well have their thunder stolen by their opener, The Rebirth Brass Band.

Members Eye_Of_The_Liger Posted March 22, 2006 Members Posted March 22, 2006 I can't believe that this thread went into page two without Th' Legendary Shack Shakers being mentioned until now.
Members way2fat Posted March 22, 2006 Members Posted March 22, 2006 Not to mention the Radiators, whom I love but haven't seen live.
Members karlw Posted March 22, 2006 Members Posted March 22, 2006 Red Hot Chili Peppers on their Mother's Milk tour in 1989 or so. They were in top form, and it was Mike Frusciante's time before he quit. They were just about to go into the studio to do Blood Sugar Sex Magic. I remember one thing in particular about Frusciante: he played either a Les Paul or a Strat, through a wah pedal, into a stack of Marshalls. No fancy crap there and the tone was awesome. Chad Smith and Flea were just so friggin' tight it was unbelieveable. Brian Setzer Orchestra. I knew Setzer was cool, but had no idea what an amazing guitar player he was until I first saw them on tour in around 1999. He knows the "lost chords" and his band was just on fire. Metallica on the Black Album tour before they wussed out. Just killer! "Master of Puppets" live is just unforgettable. -Karl

Lotsa fun.

Love Hatebreed too, but DEP wins out based on how ridiculously good they are as musicians, and how out of control they are on stage. Zao is up there, too.
