Members ThumpThumpTwang Posted March 14, 2006 Members Posted March 14, 2006 Finally. I'm probably not eligible to hang here for awhile. But God, what a relief. It didn't go very smooth, but, well, it's over. I am going to go out on a limb here, and say, {censored}ing drummers rock! He took my side, (even tho I wish he wouldn't have done it in front of the girls, but, well, when {censored} needed to be said, he said it). I'm officially a useless guitar hack, and I am happy. now, about getting those microphone cords untangled...
Members ThumpThumpTwang Posted March 14, 2006 Author Members Posted March 14, 2006 Very much, in an Elvis way, only more sincere. Thank you. I might actually start practicing a little bit more again. Drummer approached it in a very methodic way. Band Leader blew up in a name-calling hissy fit. I dunno. It was kinda awkward, I would've never done it in front of the girls. I showed up, and there were seven cars out front. I had hoped they hired a horn section, but, no such luck. I got to play my SG tonight. They never let me do that. No hard feelings, I hope. I just need to get on with my life.
Members THBv2.0 Posted March 14, 2006 Members Posted March 14, 2006 I may be ignorant of some info that was posted in another thread, but what happened to make you want to leave this band so bad?
Members ThumpThumpTwang Posted March 14, 2006 Author Members Posted March 14, 2006 I didn't want to quit. The Band Leader offered an ultimatum I couldn't refuse. I was just starting my 3rd year of drama class, (also known as The Band). No, never mind. Tonight's for feeling good. I wish I had Aretha on CD right now, cuz my neighbours would be hearing it. "Find out what it means to me"......
Members THBv2.0 Posted March 14, 2006 Members Posted March 14, 2006 Some other time, then. I'm off to the gym.
Members ThumpThumpTwang Posted March 14, 2006 Author Members Posted March 14, 2006 Seriously, tho. No bad feelings. They took me in, and let me play guitar for two or more years. I appreciate the opportunity they gave me. I'm just glad to be free from feeling obligated to learn songs they wanted to play, while the ones I wanted to play were ignored.
Members THBv2.0 Posted March 14, 2006 Members Posted March 14, 2006 I've been in situations like that to varying degrees. Early on I didn't have much to say about it, because like you I was brought on to play guitar and throw in a backing vocal here and there. As time went on and I formed more bands I had more and more control over the set lists because I was the front man. Now I have almost no interest in doing covers, but I choose covers that the others in the band like, can sing and enjoy playing. I'm lucky to have a lead picker who can sing great as well. He sings CCR, the Stones and lots more, and I sing some covers and all originals. There always has to be some give and take.
Members fuzzball Posted March 15, 2006 Members Posted March 15, 2006 I remember one time when a gutarist in my band wanted my spot behind the mic. He tried to get me out of the band. The band split in half and went their separate ways. Later I found out that they stole a few of my songs so I waited until after their show and kicked my rivals *&^.
Members fuzzball Posted March 16, 2006 Members Posted March 16, 2006 Yes I did, that was back when I was in good shape:D Now I am a bit older and more calm.
