Members bonscottvocals Posted March 15, 2006 Members Posted March 15, 2006 Todd Rundgren! I just saw their new video, and Todd's voice has either dropped or he was using a falsetto in the day. They've got him phrasing closer to Ocasek (sp?) I hope to catch them and Blondie when they're in Saratoga this year. (Web link )
Members elbow Posted March 15, 2006 Members Posted March 15, 2006 Cool stuff there... and it does have some of the old Ocasik sound doesn't it? I would go and see them if they came anywhere near my place. I always thought Elliott Easton was one of the better players out there. He brought versatility, good tones, good phrasing... just good stuff.

Members Scafeets Posted March 15, 2006 Members Posted March 15, 2006 That is Ocasek singing. They just posted an old live recording. Should be a fun tour to hear the Cars, but Blondie is a sad shadow of her former self. She was never much of a singer, and she's a lot worse now.

It shows Todd singing.
Members Mr. Botch Posted March 15, 2006 Members Posted March 15, 2006 Who's playing bass for the Cars? It would be doubly cool if they got Kasim Sultan!

Yeah, that's Todd singing "Not Tonight" in the video.I was talking about the recording on the page -- "You're all I've Got" which is a live recording from back inthe day with R-O.

Members Mr. Botch Posted March 15, 2006 Members Posted March 15, 2006 RAWK!!! :thu: Kas has a great voice, I'm pretty excited about hearing this. The firewall at work here won't let the video download, but I'll take the time tonight to get it via dialup.
Members SpectralJulian Posted March 15, 2006 Members Posted March 15, 2006 I don't often say this about reforming bands, but I think that the New Cars might be better than the old Cars.

She gained a person in weight, and unlike the voice of Heart (Anne Wilson), she doesn't retain the vocal quality through it all. She could really use a season on Celebrity Fat Club when I last saw her. Did anyone catch her at the Hall of Fame induction? I missed it.
Moderators Lee Knight Posted March 15, 2006 Moderators Posted March 15, 2006 Prairie Prince on drums!

Members Tedster Posted March 16, 2006 Members Posted March 16, 2006 Todd, Elliot, Kasim, Prairie... Cartubetopia. I've met Prairie Prince. And the rest of the current Tubes lineup. The man is a mofo of a drummer.
Members bonscottvocals Posted March 16, 2006 Author Members Posted March 16, 2006 Originally posted by daddymack Well, she is over 60.... I was talking about when she was in a movie in the 80's. Twilight Zone Movie maybe? She played a witch who was going to eat some kids, I remember that much. I got to see her and the Blondie guitar player (he was watching his 3 year old grand-child or child) in a new interview, and she looks like she's got control of her weight. They've got a video out, and instead of putting together new songs, they took an Internet idea and mixed "Riders on the Storm" from the Doors into "Rapture".
Members wheresgrant3 Posted March 16, 2006 Members Posted March 16, 2006 No Greg Hawkes, Ric O. or David Robinson. How can that be The Cars??? Can someone confirm the official lineup.
Members wheresgrant3 Posted March 16, 2006 Members Posted March 16, 2006 Whoosp! I spoke to soon. I see on the link Greg "Stephen Hawking" Hawkes is in the mix. Cool! Well 2 out of five ain't too bad. Maybe they can call it The Caaaaaaa .......
Members maxnew40 Posted March 16, 2006 Members Posted March 16, 2006 Cool Lineup I always liked Todd. I'll probably buy the record when it comes out. I graduated from High School in 1980 so I always kinda liked those guys. Max
Members jackcheez Posted March 16, 2006 Members Posted March 16, 2006 I'm bummed. I got two tickets to the Los Angeles show............ AND A GIG THAT NIGHT    Sorry, too many emotions
Members way2fat Posted March 16, 2006 Members Posted March 16, 2006 I heard a story about 15 years ago involving Ocasic getting his ass beaten on his own front lawn by his girlfriends brother. Anyone hear that?
Members BeauNasty Posted March 18, 2006 Members Posted March 18, 2006 It's not The Cars without Ocasek. Benjamin Orr is dead. WTF?! Start a new band and call it something else.
Members Body Bomb Posted March 18, 2006 Members Posted March 18, 2006 Originally posted by BeauNasty It's not The Cars without Ocasek. Benjamin Orr is dead. WTF?! Start a new band and call it something else. For real. This is like when Thin Lizzy were touring without Phil Lynott. Perhaps even worse. There are no Cars without Ocasek and Orr.

Totally agree. Reformed bands rarely match up well against the original. In this case though, I think Rundgren will bring a unique voice and presence to the band. Plus, I think he's a better musician than Ocasek.
