Ask them why you did not have an opportunity to VOTE on this new law? Get some people together and protest. If you seriously object to these new laws, do something. I don't think there are any new laws, just a different way of enforcing existing PI laws. I wonder if the venues will be held liable like they are in some drunk driving cases. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if one of the people arrested turned around and sued the bar.

Members gtrbass Posted March 27, 2006 Members Posted March 27, 2006 This reminds me of a story. A cop is sitting in his cruiser late at night and notices this guy staggering out of the bar across the street at closing time. He's just sloppy drunk and is fumbling around for his keys in his pocket. Everyone else completely ignores him and go to their cars and leave. This dude is so obviously wasted that he can't even open the door of his car. So the cop pulls up next to him in his patrol car. The guy is so drunk he doesn't even seem to notice the police car with the roof lights on. The cop gets out, walks up to him, taps him on the shoulder and says "Hey buddy, where do you think you're going?" The guy without turning around answers "Uhh ...home." The Cop says "Ohh, I don't think so. You're obviously way too drunk to drive." With that the guy stands up straight, turns around and says, "Officer, I'm not the slightest bit intoxicated. I'm this evening's designated decoy."

Your solution in Seattle is to go the Indian Casinos. They cater to ALL of their customers. They have drinking/smoking/gambling AND non-drinking/smoking/gambling. Everyone is welcome. What a concept, huh?Unfortunately, a lot of misguided Americans (just read some of the previous posts) don't want everyone to have a choice. The Indians welcome everybody and American musicians want people banned. Weird.

My problem with everything is actually the rise of conservatives. they seem to have made the world the crazy place it is right now. But the Democrats aren't any better, the lesser of two evils, but corrupt just the same. MY problem is the common person has no representation right now..... And the south of France is sooo nice.....

Members Roy Brooks Posted March 28, 2006 Members Posted March 28, 2006 I believe one of the things that has led to the decline of live music is that most people who go to bars are pretty low brow and aren't sophisticated enough to appreciate good music.
Members Blackwatch Posted March 28, 2006 Members Posted March 28, 2006 Who runs Seattle, Austin, and San Antonio? It ain't conservatives. If you think this is the work of the liberals you really got it wrong. It's the bible thumping conservatives that pee their pants if somebody has fun or sex that are doing this....... As a matter of fact, it started in Mass. Originally posted by Beachbum I can understand why the authorities are doing this, but I don't necessarily agree with it.I've always wondered why the cops don't simply sit 1 block from the bar parking lot at closing time and arrest 95% of the people who drive. You know they're over the legal limit anyhow. This really has nothing to do with the subject though (just like smoking doesn't either). As was previously stated, this has been going on for quite some time in Florida, and I imagine other places as well. In a couple of places, I've seen police taking down license plates on cars parked in bar lots, then waiting for the customer to come out. Originally posted by sventvkg As for smoking in a bar verses drinking, people who drink in a bar are ingesting the drug themselves and it's not hurting anyone else. When you smoke me and everyone else who is there that does not smoke have to be subjected to the 2nd hand version of the substance and we have no choice about it. That's the difference. I'm obviously ALL FOR not infringing on my space..Shoot up, snort anything you want and drink up right next to me for all I care! But light up and I have to breath your toxic substance and that infringes upon my space..Sorry but that's the case and I hope the smoking ban is put into wider circulation. It's only fair. It's bull{censored} that you NEED to smoke while you are out drinking. Whether someone NEEDS to smoke or not, shouldn't it be up to the owner of an establishment as to what legal activities occur in his/her place? Anytime one is told what he/she can or can't do liberty is lost to some extent. If non-smoking establishments do better, eventually simple economics will dictate that most places will be non-smoking. Terry D. I think that's the story we first heard about. It smells like someone is shaking down the out-of-towners to me. Strange they don't seem to have any issues with PI during SXSW ! There have also been stories of Rice U (?) students using their "safe ride" service being pulled out of the passenger seats and busted for PI. WTF ? The links I have seen to the TX law indicate that it is written so broadly that they can decide almost anyone anywhere is a risk to themselves or others and bust them even if nothing at all has happened. Only a good lawyer and some sort of proof that you were not a danger can prevail against something like that. Most people will pay the fine (hmmmmm) and walk away from the nasty fight. I'd feel a lot better about the ACLU and similar groups if they hammered some of the people responsible for this nonsense.
Members SpacedCowboy Posted April 3, 2006 Members Posted April 3, 2006 And just when you think "It can't happen here..." Some of my old college buddies brought several more friends to a venue here in VA that we play pretty frequently. The next thing you know, the bouncers decide to make an example out of one of them. The reason given for his ejection from the club was he "looked too intoxicated." Now mind you, I know this particular guy. He wasn't belligerent, never HAS been, wasn't starting a fight, puking in the floor or weaving around, but for some reason he was signaled out by the bouncers. Of course the sane thing to do would be to just "cut him off", but no...they kicked him out of the club! WTF??? So thusly, and justifiably, my other college buds and their friends decided to leave too.If this is the way things are going, I think I'll take up macrame and just stay the {censored} home saturday nights.

Google US congressional maps. Check out any state other than Texas. Check out your own state of Florida, which isn't the prettiest thing but at least makes some sense. Then check out Texas. This map bears absolutely no resemblence to a representative form of government, and I'm sure that even our conservative courts will agree when they review it... this one's going to trial.
