Did anyone have a Halloween gig last night? Did you play in costume? Post pics if you did!

 played 4 sets, a mixture of country and rock, and country rock.

Halloween songs:

Monster Mash

Time Warp

Little Bones.

We dressed in an Austin powers theme. The drummer was Austin. He has the fun fur chest hair, because he drummed without his coat. It was awesome!!

Being Bill Compton from True Blood on Halloween

Crappy clip of "Bad Things." Disregard my flub of the solo:facepalm: Damn beer.

Very cool! You look very similar to him, too.

We started doing "Bad Things" in September and it's been getting a great response. I wanted to do it last year, but I think that would have been too early, even though True Blood has been on for a couple of years now. It was fun to play it on Halloween. We're a three-piece too and it works surprisingly well in that format.

I'm away from my camera at the moment, so I'll post some pics tonight.

Thanks! If I wasn't playing, I might of had a good run in the costume contest.

Yeah, Bad Things gets a VERY good response. We started playing it this summer, and everytime we do, more people go "hey, that's the True Blood song!" It's a fun tune to play, and it does work in a three piece setting. The real work is on the bassist for that tune:)

I gotta ask ... what sort of venue was this? That's one BIG stage! From the pics it looks like you guys set up well back from the front edge of the stage ... just curious why?

It's the radio station gig we do every year (6 years now). Smaller capacity arena (1800 people). They curtain off about halfway. We leave room on the stage so people can come up and dance as well as well as it leaves the radio station room to hold their contests.

Boo Ball Video

(Norman... check out the sick keyboard setup! BTW I'm running the AX-Synth via wireless midi)

Sweet! What is the gear on top of the XP-30?

Isn't this a pretty picture:

DSC00801.JPG

OT for gear talk: :D

Motif Rack... and an Akai sampler. Here's a list of everything we had on stage... and we used all of it :D.

Triton Extreme

Roland VP550 Vocoder

Korg TR Rack

Roland XV5080 Rack

Roland AX Synth

Motif Rack

Roland XP30

Nord Lead 2

Korg M3

The Motif believe it or not has probably the best sound for the dance stuff we do on stage. I'm liking my Triton less and less these days. That detuned sawtooth Richie is playing during Bad Romance is the Motif.

So I'm ditching the Triton in favor of an M3 (purchase pending)... he's replacing the XP30 with the M3... and we plan to create and trade patches for songs. Our setups with have some identical pieces so if he covers on a night I'm not available... or vice versa... we're always sounding the same

Motif Rack... and an Akai sampler. This is pretty much our rig for every show together... except for the Nord lead and M3.

So those were just being demo'd or something?

Oh I believe it. I'm a big Motif fan and looking to upgrade my 'classic' to either a XS or XF in the next few weeks.

How do you compare the M3 with the Motif?

:lol:That tux. jacket looks just like the jackets we used to wear when we played formal events back in the late 60's. They weren't costumes either. They were our formal garb for weddings and such

Hey, that jacket rocks! I'd wear it to regular gigs NOW if I had it. Especially if the color is accurate and is as turquoise as it looks in the pics.

Nope... we used them on a few songs... we just don't carry or have the room for all that gear at regular shows.

The M3 is great for brass, piano sample is great (great on the Motif too). Great pads and stuff. You need the Radius expansion for better sounding synth type patches. I love my Triton... just sick of carrying that show to show. I want to save real estate... bring just the M3 module, vocoder, rack case and Keytar to gigs.

Answer above!

I've been playing what I can get my hands on in the stores as it's time for a new big main board, and I liked a lot of the M3 sounds. (I've always got a 'grass is greener' attitude towards keyboards anyway. Any board that gets a sound mine doesn't always blows me away.) But I think that overall the newer Motifs are more versatile and I'm familiar with the Yamaha architecture.

I'd like to add some Korg sounds to my pallette though. I'm thinking of a Triton rack module as they are getting pretty cheap these days. I'm always a sucker for used gear, anyway.

What, my bare chested self doesn't work for you.

Here's a few... I really haven't gotten many pictures back so far. The girl in the pic with Meagan is a friend. The dude is just some random dude who appears to have had a little much to drink. She's a good sport though.

You'll also notice that the band pic is from early in the night. The cowboy appears to have gotten gayer as the night went on...

Thanks -- yeah, I kinda love the brocade smoking jacket, though it is just a bit too small for me (my cuffs stick all the damn way out the sleeves) and needs a repair (I seem to have busted a seam Saturday night).

The color is indeed accurate. It was an eBay find -- according to the inside label, custom made for somebody or other [edit: one "Mr. Harold F. Walter," order no. 2113] back in the day. It matches my amp too (at stage left in the first pic above).
