Meeting other musicans in your area

Does HCF have a section where you can meet other musicans in your area? I don't want to do craigslist since there are only 14 year old emo kiddies on there.

But anyway, is there a place where I can post to interact with other musicans that live in my area?

P.S: Moderator's feel free to lock this when and if my question gets answered.

Thanks!

Edit: Really screwed up the title, *this* haha

hc is a good resource for lots of stuff, but for meeting local musicians, wouldnt just going to local music venues that play the stuff you like to listen to be the best way?

i dont know that much about the local music scene in LV, but there must be some non-tourist/non-casino venues that are more... genuine?

craigslist is read by everybody.

You're just seeing to ones who actually have the energy to write an ad.

You're not seeing the thousands of lurkers, one to ten of which just might fit your demographic.

Post an ad, be specific about what you want, and what you don't want.

hey, you never know......

I've always thought bandmix.com was a great way to see who's in your area. It's a little more serious because to contact others you'll have to pay like $10 for a membership.

Unless they happen to put their email address in their bio...

Use craigslist. The reason there's nobody like you posting there is because you're not posting there.

bandmix seems to be a better networking tool than craigslist.

It's easier to use, and more exclusive, and you can search it more easily to find what you're looking for. In terms of sheer volume of traffic, Craigslist can't be beat.

True ,, but I have found that I was able to connect with better musicans easier with bandmix. There is a michigan musicans deal that I registered with that hooked me up with a jam band,,, but it was the only call i got from that ,, it turned out to be a good one. Bandmix seems to have more adds from working bands looking for replacment players. I guess the best approach is to shotgun them all if you really are looking.

wow, i guess my reply clearly missed the point.

craigslist is a great tool for finding local musicians, and i have found band and other musicians to play with through it, including my current band.

that said, being a part of the local music scene as a consumer and getting to know the bands that play the music you like gives you valuable access to who you really like, and when bands break up, as they often do, you can poach a known quantity, or you can be available to fill in when a vacancy opens up in a band that you like.

community college music classes generate tonnes of contacts as well, and has worked for me.
