Strange crowd last night

We had kind of a strange gig Friday too. Our 1st time back at one of our regular casino gigs since April. During the summer you play outside, where they have a big bar and a bunch of tables all under canopies. It's a great gig. Friday, they were having a fundraiser inside in the big room for a girl who works there who is an olympic boxing hopeful. $5 donation got you a free drink and they had their "main" band playing (the band that gets all the good dates and plays every Thursday as well as select weekend dates all summer). I won't say anything about the band, but let's say that backing tracks are a big part of their sound. Their guitar player didn't even go to the event because they were doing it for free.

So our night is kinda slow outside because of the indoor thing, maybe half the people we'd usually have out there. Then the girl who is promoting the event inside asks if she can make an announcement, and proceeds to tell everyone what was going on, and "we have a band inside too, so come on in". WTF!! Later on she came out to make a 2nd announcement and we were on break with our break music playing, and she asked our singer to use the mic, and our singer told her that the PA was in DJ mode and the guy who can turn her mic on isn't around. The woman kind of hung around for a few minutes expecting someone to stop the music and turn on the mic, and she finally left.

I went inside a little later to see what was going on. There were about as many people in there as we had outside, so at least everyone wasn't in there. We'd have had a killer night if that event wasn't going on because all of those people would have been outside with us. Not that we had a bad night, the band was on, the weather was perfect, there were about 100 people outside with us, everyone was dancing and partying, but it wasn't as packed as we expected.

A band I know actually bought a bottle of liquor from the bar they were playing at and started bringing people up to the stage and giving out/taking shots with people. Of course those people end up buying even more drinks, and drinks for the band. It worked great, they ended up getting more than enough tips to cover the expense, plus the bar gave them a bonus at the end of the night.

Bike Time in Muskegon, MI.

Never been to that, but from going to alot of bike rally deals in michigan what you guys ran into was that a lot of those bikers were out riding. Typically at a rally ,, you saddle up about 11 or so ,, and go ride the lakeshore and grab some lunch and spend the afternoon exploring. its back to the rally site in the afternoon,, to chill out and get ready for the real party which happens after the bikes get parked and the headliner bands come on. Not sure what the format of this rally is ,, but beer tends to come out of your cooler and the ones I have been to. You can get three 12 packs in an electra glides saddle bags.. some guys have put drain holes and just ice the beer down in the bag.

Drinking and riding, always a great combo. A great way to cull the idiots.

Turning the bagger into a cooler is a back a the campground deal. If you travel on a bike and go camp at a rally , you cant haul a cooler. Most of the guys dont drink more than a beer at lunch when they are out riding ,, they will smoke weed though. Its the biker culture. You have old bikers and you have bold bikers. Not too many old bold bikers. Most wont really cut loose and party hard till the bike is parked for the day

That's how I do it. I have a strict no drinking while on the bike policy, but once I'm where the bike is going to be parked for the night, I'll knock 'em back with the best of them.

I have these bags called leatherlykes on my Vulcan. They are waterproof and removable. They even had instructions for using them as coolers and how to properly dry the liners out. :) I never tested their capacity as a cooler, but they will fit 2 six packs of bottles in each bag with room on top for a 5th of liquor. My wife has the same bags and the matching trunk on her bike, talk about some capacity, its nearly as big as my Goldwing project bike's trunk.
