Ive thought about this, also. On the one hand, its cool to have a memorable name, like"Madam Me",or something like that, but how does a prospective buyer get your name/number,the next day??

Seems like these days,ya gotta make it easy for the buyers to buy.Why make them spend the time to track you down?

Here's an experiment. This is a list of upcoming performers at a local pub. Which names tell you (assuming you don't already know) what kind of music you'll hear?

Cliff Edwards

The Wilkins

Mark Cressinger

Mike Bishop

Sandy Wilson

Paddy Whack

Troubadour

Bryon McNicholas

Jennica Rayne & Lyn Hanson

Head Over Heels

Roger James

Bob Robertson Trio

I use my stage name (Michael D.) when doing my solo act, except for my one-man-German-Band where I use the stage name "Maximillian". When I'm with one of the bands, I use the band name. Today I'm doing a duo with another guitar player whose name is also Michael, so we're going with the name "Mike & Me".

I make up a bunch of business cards on the computer with all the different names I play under so I'm always ready to hand out a card with my phone number, website, and email address.

Also,Its cool to have a banner, or sign of some sort, with contact info.If someone out there loves what you do,they will probably whip out their cell-phone,and take a pic right there. The contact info may as well be in that pic.

I talk about my website all the time. People have been going to my "setlist" page and requesting tunes from there during gigs. It's cool because of the interaction but also because now they have my website and all my contact info.

Good idea Darrell. I my case, there are some songs I don't want requested at certain times, so I don't like to disclose my complete list very often. I should come up with a select request list for that purpose.

A stage name is a good idea if it has a ring to it or creates an image. I tried changing my name when I first started as a solo, but changed back to my real name within a year. I just decided I didn't like it.

I've always just used my name, but I'm aware of two different folks who use a "stage name" to maintain absolute privacy.

I just remembered that when I started doing this, I Googled 'solo act' and got almost all porn related sites!! I decided after that that I should bill myself as a one-man band. Less chance for confusion.

I would show up somewhere to do my 'solo act' when they really wanted the one man band. Very awkward. (LOL)

It might make it easier to hit those high notes
