Anyone use pre and post distortion eq?

I just ordered a 2 channel dbx eq (should be arriving next week), and I'd like to try this way of eqing. People have suggested using a "frown" in front of the amp, and a "smile" in the loop. This idea is to avoid distortion in the lows and highs (to remove mud and buzz). But others have suggested the other way too. I know the best way is to try each and see which sounds best, but being that I don't have it yet, I'd like to see what you guys think. Which would be better?

For EQ before the preamp section, reduce some lows around the 250hz, maybe boost a very little bit of mids around 180hz and very little high mids around 1k if you'd like.

Then after the preamp section, try to add a bit more bass and what ever frequency you think is missing.

Give that a try and see how it works for you.

Good luck,

Duke
