i can get one of these preamps reasonably cheap but i've not really heard much about them.

i love the sound of my marshall 6100, but i cant stand JMP1's. think i'll like it?

obviously i'm going to try it out for myself, but you can only tell so much in the shop.

even better, anyone got any clips?

The one I had was a purple, made in US model. If you can't stand the JMP1, I'm guessing you're into more of an organic sound? I think you'll like it.

When you try it you will probably notice ALOT of treble. There are simple mods available on the net to tame the highs.

Hey dude, I had an SP-77 a few years ago. It's a cool sounding Pre both clean and distorted .80's type metal is possible with a screamer up front and through your 6100's loop return. I used it with a smaller Mesa 20/20 (EL84's)and it was a little too tinny/metallic sounding. El34's should warm it up nicely.
