Option A or Option B

That idea of midi used varies based on some peoples ideas. I'd personally agree but that's not true for all. Some people use rack to limit cable capacitance and control all their pedals and amp controls like a pedal board but from a 18" by 12" controller rather than a 36+"x24+" pedal board like I for one used to.

 

For playing live option A for sure, however for writing in a band context option B would be far easier to draw up sounds on the fly.

 

Get a more advanced pedal that can do both unless you want to sacrifice one for the other.

Personally I'd go for Option A. As JMPMarshall said it's definitely better for live. For songwriting purposes though there is nothing stopping you programming some extra patches for controlling just the G Major and unplugging the Midi from your preamp and using it's native footswitches.
