I called Chauvet and they told me of a new product that they are bringing to market. I am a guitarist in a band and know nothing about lighting... The person I talked to advised me to go with this set up instead of a Par 38 system set up. Does anybody know anything about this new product. We are looking for Stage Wash for our band and to maybe add some other stuff down the road.

Here's what you're looking for:

http://www.djworld.com/djw-store/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/50_57/products_id/1544

Quick pass at the pro's & con's:

Pro's

You get an almost infinite # of colors with a single instrument vs. needing at least 1 PAR for each color you want to throw.

Much smaller than a row of PAR cans

Lower power consumption

Less cabling, faster setup/takedown, less space in the van

Con's

Could be pricier in the short run. You can buy PAR38's for about $30, so 6 PARs instead of 1 unit.

Must use DMX to control it instead of just on/off switches.

Hi Sharkbait,

The Chauvet unit is nice, but power hungry. You can only run two on a 20 amp circuit.

The Visual Effect NovaColor with the lens removed creates a nice wash light with 15 colors and uses only 2.5 amps which would allow you to run up to 9 fixtures on one 20 amp circuit.

They are the same cost dollar wise.
