Members liamtarpey
hi again guys, after a bit of research and a helpful tip about the hughes and kettner redbox classic amp simulator, I've realised I might also need a preamp for live gigs. i'm really confused about all this - can anyone explain how it'd work? i'm just trying to get a good guitar sound into a PA system. many thanks in advance
Members The Real MC
Preamp is not necessary with the red box. If I recall you're using a little fender combo amp. You put the red box between the amplifier speaker output and the speaker.
Members Jerry007
If you're looking to avoid using an amp altogether, take a look at the Line6 Pod family. They take the place of preamp, speaker, and micing (of the guitar cab)... At least in theory. Of course, without an amp on stage, you'll need a way to monitor yourself... In the studio it's very hard to tell the difference between the Pod and a good, well-miced amp IMO.
Members The Real MC
The Pod does not model the power tube amp, that's a big part of the tone right there. Many modellers miss out on the power tube amp. IMO the most accurate modellers are the Vox Tonelabs, which DOES model the power tube amp.
Members agedhorse
All modelers that I am familiar with include some approximation of power tube and output transformer response in their models. I know for a fact that all mine do (on the DI's).
