With my band we use in ear monitoring sistem (wired). i have a behringer PowerPlay HA4700 headphone amplifier. I want buy a Limiter in order to prevent damages to our ears. I was thinking to the Behringer MDX4600 Multicom Pro-XL... it is indicated for this use? other products?? budget 100/120 euros thanks Gianluca from Italy
Members Axisplayer
At that budget, you won't find anything reliable enough to do the job of protecting your hearing. It must be a fast, brick wall limiter which is not at that price level.
Members agedhorse
It's better than nothing... I suggest that you all work to keep the volume as low as practical then use the limiter as back-up. It's your ears. The MultiCom is plenty fast and steep provided it's set up properly and reliably is not of major concern.

Members agedhorse
The notion of fast and brick wall has been grossly distorted by the marketing folks. Most limiters are plenty fast and plenty steep, just that single band limiters don't make great sounding BROADBAND limiters if you are going to be hitting them all night long. For better sound quality and operation, I would suggest a multi-band limiter, but that would be (WAY) out of your budget range given what you are looking at currently. Members dboomer
The notion of fast and brick wall has been grossly distorted ... Agreed! With a 20:1 limiter set with a high threshold (for speaker protection, etc) you would have to drive 20 dB beyond the threshold to get 1 more dB output? There's never enough additional output to do that so the real world difference between 20:1 and a perfect brick wall is like .000 something dB. btw ... brickwall limiting is built into all gear. It's called hard clipping!
