Something wrong with my bass

The D string is not as loud as the G, A, and E, strings. I strung it with 5 string bass strings and I lost sound from the D string when I put back the 4 string bass strings set. What happened to my Bass?

Interesting issue. How old are the strings? Are they new? It's possible for a older strings to lose volume and sound less crisp over time.

What kind of bass? What kind of pickups? 4 string? 5 String? Are they extremely old? Did you try boiling the strings with a bit of dish soap to clean them?

What is the gauge difference between the strings you have on now with the ones you removed?

If the poles are adjustable on the p-up, have you tried adjusting the height?

Yeah I think your stings are reused many times or of a different producer , other than that what might it be
