Members Mikeey
I purchased an old Sigma guitar and would like to know more about it. Construction, solid wood etc. Looks like hell, but I loved the sound. The two numbers inside are 811143 and 541365 The top of the guitar has Sigma Guitars. Est 1970 There is a football shaped stamp inside burned on wood. Sigma Guitars of Martin & Co Made in Japan DM-18 Any help with identification would be appreciated. Members DeepEnd
Hi and welcome to the Forum. The original DM-18 was made from 1978 to 1996. The Sigma brand was reintroduced in the last several years but they haven't been made in Japan in quite a while so yours is one of the originals. Based on the serial number I'd guess yours is an '81 model. Most likely a solid spruce top and laminated mahogany back and sides. Sigmas were nice guitars in their day. A college friend bought one (not a DM-18 though) in late '74. https://www.guitar-list.com/sigma/acoustic-guitars/sigma-dm-
