VOM1T December 2019

Recommended Posts

The last VOM of the year.

O Men From The Fields (A Cradle Song) (words by Padraic Colum, music by Arnold Cooke).

https://app.box.com/s/egjz94n3mrxgk8jfb076uy5fm046xydf

O men from the fields, come gently within,
Tread softly, softly, O men, coming in.

Mavourneen* is going from me and from you
Where Mary will fold him with mantle of blue,

From reek of the smoke and cold of the floor
And the peering of things across the half-door.

O men from the fields, softly, softly come through;
Mary puts round him Her mantle of blue

*mavourneen = "my darling" (from the Irish "mo mhuirnin")

Played on my lute guitar.

Best wishes for the festive season.

I have another twofer this month, both seasonal and both originals. First is "The No Christmas Presents Blues," inspired by the "Folsom Prison Blues," and with appropriate apologies to Johnny Cash: https://soundcloud.com/david-phelps-681437607/the-no-christmas-presents-blues

Second is something a bit more serious, "The Fourth Wise Man," based on a story I made up: https://soundcloud.com/david-phelps-681437607/the-fourth-wise-man

catscurlyear - You definitely put your own stamp on it. I appreciated the slower tempo. Nice job all around.

Far from perfect and not exactly one take (*Well, yes for the voice and yes for the piano but then I mixed the tracks...) but I wish you all a Merry Christhmas !!!

I hope you are all doing fine and having a good time with your family!!

Be safe and be healthy!!

Comme on dit en français: excusez-là!!!

Misha - That was lovely, even though the song is unfamiliar. Thanks for posting. We don't get nearly enough of your playing or singing.

Hi DeepEnd!

It's too low to sing for me but I might try to record it in another key!

You all are much tighter than I am! (I'm simply not!) It's been a pleasure to listen to your clips!

:music005:

(I don't have a karaoke machine but it would have been fun for tonight's family diner! I'm looking on the net to see if there is an easy way with an amp, a mic and a computer to simulate karaoke!!) Cheers!!

I'm late and long absent from these things, but here's something from me:

Very well done. Much better than I could possibly do. Thanks for posting. BTW, I took the liberty of "fixing" your YouTube link. More people need to see/hear this.

Thanks, Deepend. The forum software here continues to befuddle me. I haven't been able to make heads or tails of it for a long time - but at least when the mods edit things they're being helpful. Over at that other place I got flagged for using the acronym "PITA." - OK, Boomer 🙄

Etienne Rambert - I remember both songs and I appreciated the chance to hear them again. Well done and thanks for posting.
