Members taoron
I'm trying to identify an Alvarez I bought from my brother, probably close to 20 years ago. My hands are shot and I can't play anymore, because my fingers go dead halfway through a song, so I am looking to sell it, but I cannot find any info on it. The label inside says it's an Alvarez Artist, with a model AD60CSB. Anyone familiar with this model? Ser# is 110414
Members Blind Dog
Hi taoron, and welcome. The Emperor date code page might be helpful. Alvarez are Yairi guitars for import by St. Louis Music Co.. https://yairiluvr.wordpress.com/2009/08/19/emperor-dating-code/ I'm not familiar with the model's suffix, but the A is Artist, D is for dreadnought, 60 might be trim level, C could be cutaway, S could be slope shoulder, and B could be burst. If nobody pipes up, you could try Alvarez customer service. With the serial # they might have the date, and they should at least be able to decipher the code. https://www.alvarezguitars.com/contact/ I think it's likely a solid sitka spruce top, with mahogany laminate back & sides. The base AD60 is here. https://www.alvarezguitars.com/guitar/ad60/ Convention for pricing used imo is; half original retail, with a bump up or down for condition -- case increase price as well. So a ball park guesstimate imo would $200 to $300 depending on condition. Pic's would help. Even if it's vintage, at 30 years old or older, it's not highly sought after -- so imo it would not increase the value dramatically (like a D-28 or Les Paul) if it is. You can always give it a bit of price bump if it's 1990, or earlier. Play ability will also influence the price. If you can demonstrate its tone, and that it plays well, all the better. Somebody here could have that exact model, or know for sure -- but I can't sleep. All the best, and Season's Greetings!
Members DeepEnd
Blind Dog is on the right track. AD60CSB = Artist series (one up from the bottom line Regent); Dreadnought size; 60 is the specific model, in this case solid spruce/laminated mahogany (70 would be laminated rosewood); Cutaway; SunBurst. Regular Alvarez guitars are not made by Yairi, St. Louis Music had an arrangement to import Yairi guitars with the Alvarez name. Based on eBay sold listings, figure $150 or so. Members Blind Dog
Imo, there's much conflicting information on Alvarez, Alvarez-Yairi, K. Yairi, and S. Yairi. Even on Wiki. There may well be an Alvarez Chosen One with unmatched wisdom & divine truth, but I try to research as many opinions as possible & form my own opinion. Jmo -- I'm no expert.
