Fancy looking violins and other orchestral stings

I posted a long time ago, but I'll repeat my theory: fancy inlays and all that bling can do nothing but lower sound quality of instrument. People want a solid top, but the with inlays wind up with semi plywood (excepting rosette as that bit was added to strengthen around sound hole, or so I read) . I suppose easier to get away with bling in guitar building, but violin doesn't have as much area to mess up. Personally, I like "form follows function". Strat is primo example of that, or maybe a Strad...

Standup basses in rockabilly bands often had white bindings, if that is worth anything...
