Shorted (or partially shorted) loads can cause a lot more damage when a failure does occur. I'll add that I can't imagine a good reason to bridge an amp over the size of an RMX1450 and even then only if you're a cheap bastard and/or waiting for the Peavey IPR4500 to ship sometime this century .
