Members badpenguin
So when I saw that Guitarfetish had the Epiphone Lucille varitone circuit for under 25 bucks, without thought or hesitation, I ordered it. Well, who wouldn't? That BB King tone, or that woman tone with just a touch of gain.... yum! Then I looked at the specs, and thought to myself "How the H E double hockey sticks am I going to fit this 3 3/4' X 2" X 3/4' circuit board in a guitar???" Then the second, more obvious question arose... 'What guitar?" I am NOT routing out a hole in my Epiphone Lee Malia, nor in my Sheraton. It MIGHT fit in the pickup hole of my hollow Casino, but where do I put the knob? Crap, another stupid impulse purchase. Then I looked at a distortion pedal sitting my bench that needed repair and thought.... 'Hmmmm… I wonder if that would work." So, I pedalized it. Added the 1/4' jacks to the appropriate in and outs, put it in a proof of concept kinda box, and wha-lah, a Varitone for any and every guitar! How does it sound you ask? Well, surprise surprise, just like a proper Varitone. That light high end cut, the "woman tone", that completely weird and useless but you swear you can do something with mid cut, it's all there. Pictured below is the fruits of my "impulse buy". A metal box is on it's way from feebay, and an on/off switch will be added to it. Hope it provides a little inspiration. Members 1001gear
The new Raspberry PI is still 35 bucks. Looks like there's room for it too.

Phil O'Keefe
Neat idea! Does it sound different in different places in the signal chain? IOW, have you tried it running first (right after the guitar), as well as running it post-distortion?
Members DeepEnd
Cool. The idea of using it on multiple guitars is brilliant. They say necessity is a mother--no, wait, that's not right, LOL. Anyway, congratulations and Happy New Varitone Day. I've never used one and I'd be interested in hearing clips if you can manage it.
Members badpenguin
*Hangs head in shame...* You know what Phil? I hadn't thought about putting it in different areas of the chain! I run front, just as a typical mounted Vari would be, and it never occurred to me to place it elsewhere. Thank you for that! And while it runs in the maze of a brain cell I have, I could add a second in and out to it, (It IS stereo after all.) and place it in various point of the chain! The web is a nice place at times!
