I think they are just tired of the DC BS so they voted in something different.

There are things that even I like about Trump. He does things, period. Some of them may be stupid but at least he's a leader.

He's strong against illegal immigration. We all should be.

There are other things too but I hate giving him any credit cuz he's such a turd.

The problems with Trump though are numerous and tragic.

He literally craps all over our Constitution, conventions, institutions, and every single person who served to make us what we are.

He lies like it's a bad habit. Nothing he says can be taken at face value. No one can negotiate with him in good faith.

He has nearly zero ethics and a person like that should never be handed that kind of power. NEVER.

I could go on. And on.

How is this NOT trolling? :philpalm:

What kind of discussion are you looking for with this OP? Do you really expect reasonable and civil discourse to result from this OP?

I’d honestly like to know.

That is surprisingly close to how I feel about him.

I read somewhere a great analogy: Imagine the best and most reasonably priced plumber in town also cheats on his wife - and constantly lies about it. But you need a good plumber now. And he's available. Do you care about his marital infidelity or do you want your plumbing fixed?

i.e. many with TDS are simply focusing on the wrong things.

If so, I think it's reasonable discussion. If not, I disagree with you.

Yes, he cheats on his wives, but he's also a dishonest and inept plumber who ignores regulations, doesn't finish the job, and blames the pipes when he can't fix them..

That's not how I see this particular plumber. But YMMV.

I see him as a plumber that does what needs to be done to get the job done. You see, I don't think government regulations are handed down from God and many of them are a "one size fits all" nightmare. What's legal is not necessarily moral and what's moral is not necessarily legal.

Managers that follow the rules become first or maybe second level managers. Managers that break the rules at the wrong time get fired. Managers that break the rules at the right time become presidents and CEO's.

It is literally how the world works. Those that get stuff done rise above the rest. Those that play "by the rules at all costs" don't get stuff done. This goes for Trump, Pelosi, et-al.

This thread is very simple to understand. Here is an article explaining it. Quite amusing to me.

Personally, I like posts like his for one simple reason - they tell me that the right is getting under their skin. And I consider that a good thing.

Kinda like when other posters are fixated on things I say, even mentioning them in multiple threads. I've never seen anything posted by a leftist here that was worth quoting - even to "make fun of them."

Often people tell us a lot about themselves by what and how they post - that has nothing to do with the raw content of the post itself. It's one of the things I enjoy about this site.

Yeah, you're pushing the analogy too far. I know where this country went during the Bush years. I know where it went during the Obama years. And I know where it's gone in the Trump years. Give me Trump, regardless of the color of suit he wears.

Actions speak louder than words.

Getting stuff done...if it is the wrong stuff, doesn't help.

The 'rules', such as our Constitution, exist because our forebears saw what unfettered power did in monarchal societies. Those rules are there to protect the people, and when someone breaks those rules, we are all put at risk. There is an argument to be made that the 'rules' are too generalized, but this is a nation of over 300 million people...you can't cater to everyone...so the majority, good or bad, rules, except in the case of the Electoral College vs, the popular vote

Managers that hire and fire at will with no logic, blame employees for the manager's screw-ups, promote incompetent staffers beyond their capabilities, speak abusively about their competitors and lie daily to their Board of Directors tend to get flushed out...as will Trump.

Sadly, those sycophants who were elected to serve the people, but put party politics above their constituents, will still be around after the circus leaves town.

Here's another theory, by Miss A Elk.

Host: No, no, no. What is your theory?

Elk: Oh, what is my theory?

Host: Yes.

Elk: Oh what is my theory, that it is. Yes, well you may well ask, what is my theory.

Host: (slightly impatient) I am asking.

Elk: And well you may. Yes my word you may well ask what it is, this theory of mine. Well, this theory that I have--that is to say, which is mine-- ...is mine.

Host: (more impatient) I know it's yours. What is it?

Elk: Where? Oh, what is my theory?

Host: Yes!

Elk: Oh, my theory that I have follows the lines I am about to relate. (Coughs)Ahem. Ahem. Ahem. Ahem. Ahem. Ahem.

Host: Oh God.

Elk: Ahem. Ahem. Ahem. Ahem. Ahem. Ahem. Ahem. Ahem. Ahem. Ahem. Ahem. Ahem. [impatient noises from Host] The Theory, by A. Elk. That's A for Anne, it's not by a elk.

Host: Right....

Elk: This theory which belongs to me is as follows. Ahem. Ahem. This is how it goes. Ahem. The next thing that I am about to say is my theory. Ahem. Ready?

Let's go with your analogy for a moment.

So this plumber, he cheats on his wife; a woman he has vowed to honor and respect and love and live with. He lies to her.

Do you think for one minute that this plumber won't cheat you too?

(Especially given that this particular plumber lies all daylong every day.)

But you're going to trust him and let him in your house where your family lives, and you'r OK with that?

That says a lot. A whole lot.

Sometimes

Those that play "by the rules at all costs" don't get stuff done.

those that don't play by the rules go to prison.

I agree. However, for the most part I'm very pleased with what Trump has gotten done. In fact, from my perspective he is the most productive president in my lifetime, regarding getting the right things done. And I'm 75.

What happened to "hate the sin, love the sinner"? I absolutely HATE collectivism, having experienced the end result thereof 1st hand. But I certainly don't hate the people pushing for it in this country - if anything, I pity them in their ignorance and delusion, but their delusion doesn't make them hate-worthy people, imho - some of my best friends are delusional, with the best of intentions

I feel almost the same about religion vs. those who practice it.

Hate is probably too strong a word. But they are people frustrated that they haven’t been able to get ahead or even keep up so they look to this groups to place the blame upon.

And Trump gave them the validation to do so. They love him because they think he has the power/voice to say what they can’t.

a plumber isnt the same thing as the President of the United States.

When we start considering honesty and ethics to be the “wrong thing” to focus on, we’re doomed as a nation.

No. I think most Trump voters over 60 hate liberals too.

But with all of this discussion we should probably be making clear to distinguish between the 32% who love Trump with all their heart and soul and that other 14% who voted for him even though they don’t like him much and were the real difference in the election.

It seems that to some folks (whether left or right), the culture “war” currently carries far far greater import than economic policy. In 2016, Trump touted populist views (and utilized class warfare), promising large government projects, less free trade, and guaranteed healthcare for all. Well, you probably remember all that.

You know I tend to be drawn towards and form adoration for those that think differently than I do. :) A wise person once said "If two people in a room think exactly alike, then one of them isn't necessary".

That said, I totally resent and loathe anyone who thinks they're entitled to that which I've acquired via my own efforts and risk taking. Especially since I started with literally nothing including a lack of complexion protection.

I dunno... having been in a very evangelical, conservative church, we always did work to “hate the sin, not the sinner” when we hated, for example, Roe v. Wade.

... ok, I’m too tired to keep typing on phone right now. 6:15 am flight is a rough thing. But it is funny reading this new poorly conceived analogy being tossed around.

Ignorant much?

I was actually a minority in my community growing up for years.

But yeah, I get the pavlovian virtue signaling you're required to dispense when a "non-minority" claims they didn't have any advantages due to skin color. :)

Have you paid your reparations yet?

Do tell! Which community was this? What disadvantages did this present you? Hard time getting into the best schools there? Getting a job? Were you profiled by security when shopping in department stores?
