Members Vito Corleone
I was mad when they took it off last time and put something stupid in its place:mad:. Then a couple days ago I was listening to another channel when “Yacht Rock Guy” came on between songs with the hilarious accent and beckoned me to change the channel to 70(that’s seven-zero:whisper:). Now I can get my groove back on in my land yacht..soo yachtty. They had it on for a few weeks in the winter selling it as an “out of season” thing but it’s always better when it’s warm out. Now if only it would stop raining here! is it just me, or does this music sound better when played through a pair of Bose speakers? .

Members redEL34
Now playing- Hall and Oates “Rich Girl”. It only rates a 37 on the Yachtski scale, but I disagree. It should be at least a 77.

Members capitalist
I am sure Siris did some market research and concluded that there was sufficient demand. In addition to my "80's college rock band", I am in a yacht rock band too. We play infrequently but the audiences seem receptive. As we are playing, most of the audience are singing or dancing. To each his\her own. Peace!
Phil O'Keefe
<> Lumping him with MM era Doobie Bros is pretty darn insulting. Stylistically, they were really not that dissimilar. I'd be happy to debate that with you if you feel otherwise.
Members Vito Corleone
<> Lumping him with MM era Doobie Bros is pretty darn insulting. Seriously? What’s the difference? I consider “Silk Degrees” to be the granddaddy of Yacht Rock albums. I consider most of the stuff prior to that album to be more of a pre-yacht thing. In my definition, Yacht Rock is the slick, jazz influenced pop-rock that was some of the first music designed to appeal to those aging boomers who were at least beginning to out-grow the harder-edged stuff they had been listening to when they were younger. The first “Rock” music really geared for an over-30 audience. Often with more adult themes in the lyrics as well. As a kid at the time I liked this music because so much of it was slicky produced and played by stellar musicians. I aspired to that level of musicianship. And most of it had more sophisticated chord changes than found on most rock records at the time. But it certainly wasn’t “cool” to be a Boz Scaggs fan at 16. Members Zig al-din
No, just the Michael McDonald era stuff. But Toto? Oh hell yeah. In fact, anything with a Porcaro brother anywhere near the recording is pretty much an automatic shoe-in. Jazz rock fusion is almost always acceptable to play on the yacht. Anything that sounds like it took a LOT of money to record will usually qualify. But the best yacht rock songs (IMO) are those with a bit of ironic sadness to them. Those that you'd play while busting out the lines of coke to impress that girl who is probably way too young for you but since you're now spending so much more time on your boat now that the wife has left you and has taken the house and the kids..... Wow...you sure have some deep knowledge of this genre. Much much deeper I would say than any other genre you've discussed on this forum. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Dude you know WAY more about yacht rock than you do about any other musical style and you've been waxing poetic about it in this thread. Just deal with that fact. BTW, Ozzy Osbourne wouldn’t even be allowed to swab the deck on the Yacht. He wouldn't be caught dead near it. He would be part of the crew of this ship destroying it. They’d never catch the Yacht. It is outfitted with only the latest, greatest most powerful engine and accessories. And the expensive brand names make it even faster! Members redEL34
I`m starting to like the OTHER Steely Dan songs besides the two I like. Something about some dudes. -I guess it`s all about context. Steely Dan regularly scores 90-100 on the Yachtski scale.
