Hello,

I dont know anything about that theme, so I ask here. I‘ve got a Yamaha FG-200 with a (I think it is) red label. I want to know how old this thing is and how much its worth.

It would be great if you could help.

Thank you,

Hchass

It could be worth a fair amount and it could be worth almost nothing. Red Label Yamies from the late 1960's to 1970's have a bit of a cult following and you see some pretty inflated prices. For many of us they were our first guitars (I bought my FG-150 for a hundred bucks in 1970) so folks sometimes want to capture their youth and buy one just like they had back then.

Problem is, they can have issues that make them almost unplayable (and many are difficult to fix). Most notably, if the neck angle is bad, as it frequently is on old guitars, it can be almost impossible to fix. I put these guitars in the "worth almost nothing" group - I might buy one in a yard sale for 25 or 50 bucks and try to reset the neck - if I'm successful I would give the guitar to someone in our high school music program.

Here is a great resource for old Yamies, the guy who moderates it knows a lot and it would be worth sending him a message

First, welcome to the Forum. Second, eBay Sold listings with tan labels run from $79 to $180 + shipping: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=yamaha+fg200&_sacat=0&rt=nc&LH_Sold=1&LH_Complete=1. That's the actual selling price in the last few months. Sorry, no listings for FG200 red label and none on Reverb.com either. Whether your guitar is worth that much is unknown for all the reasons Freeman cited but it's a place to start.
