Just received a zed series 22 channel mixer. The two 1/4 inch jacks beside the xlr L/R outputs are labeled insert L and insert R.

These are not outputs of the L/R mix ?

The books describes them as for unbalanced insert send and return signals.

I have a 4 trs return snake ,, will i need to change two of the 1/4's to xlr's on the mixer end for my L/r output ?

or am i going about the whole thing wrong ?

Thanks

Indeed, the wrong thought. These INSERTS are for putting a processor across the WHOLE mix prior to output. These are commonly used for an analog EQ, allowing you to EQ the output and see the EQed output levels on the output metering. So they are are like an FX loop on a guitar amp.

For your snake: You have a couple options. Yes, you can change the TRS plugs to XLR for output from your mixer. OR pick up a couple Female XLR to 1/4" Trs/ts jack adapter barrels or cables. Radio Shack used to carry them. I think www.audiopile.net also has the cable type. I think the cable type are less rugged but prevents the lever effect causing possible damage to the output jacks.
